Takeaways from Loudoun United’s scoreless draw with Hartford
Sometimes, there’s just not really that much to talk about. And compared to the previous week when Loudoun scrapped in a six-goal thriller, last week’s game at Hartford was, well, a bit of a rockfight where no goals were scored. But at least the result is the same, so Loudoun gets their third straight draw and four in their last five games (the USL single season record for draws is 16, in case you were curious). Are things being learned? Are aways being taken? Let’s try to sort it out:
Some steps forward, some steps back. Addressing the latter half of this first, Loudoun dressed 16 on Saturday, so we’re getting to the point where any of us can be signed to 25-day contracts. It wasn’t made easier by Marcos Dias, after looking pretty good over the last several games, being forced to leave to injury, depriving Loudoun of him and Jack Panayotou, who didn’t dress at all, also presumably to injury. That’s bad!
On the other end, Sean Young returned to the lineup but did not appear, joined by Andres Souper, who came on as a late sub and helped facilitate a save from Antony Siaha, which was good, but it came from Thor Ulfarsson shooting from beyond the halfway stripe, which wasn’t good. With Souper and Young traveling and in various states of condition, Sal Mazzaferro and Jacob Erlandson practicing (Mazzaferro made the trip to Hartford and worked out), it seems like things are getting close?
Beau is knowing clean laundry? Adam Beaudry had a lot to do for his first Loudoun shutout, and a little less both in volume and in xG, but he had to stay on his toes (his is on the right):

He’s off to a solid start so far, with two clean sheets, tying him with several keepers, including Hugo Fauroux, and while it’s hitting a familiar drum, as more defenders come back, the better a reflection this could be for Beaudry, who appears a solid option as keeper based on his work so far (Loudoun has faced the 1st, 3rd and 5th highest shot taking teams in the USL).
Still working! Dias and Quimi Ordonez have been in a muted battle of sorts for the right side of midfield and the latter came in for the former and didn’t do bad, even created a couple of chances:

I’ve expressed pain at some of his previous games this season, but like the team Quimi is a work in progress and has quietly had a nice couple of games in his own right, and whomever takes the position will find themselves in good shape with Loudoun.
Random Stat of the Day: 59, the number of shots Loudoun has taken in League play, second only to New Mexico (56) for lowest shots for.
So, where do we go from here? Well, vamos USL Cup, kicking off later today as Charleston comes to town. The Battery come off a midweek game at Rhode Island where they got walked 4-0 and have won once since a stoppage time winner against Birmingham back on March 21. Recently after they beat Louisville on the road, lost to expansion Brooklyn 3-0, so this has been a weird season to start, where the big guys and little guys can’t seem to find their form.
It would be weird, but if Loudoun did get a win from this, it would be their 2nd win in 2026 that wasn’t in League play. If it did happen, perhaps that Cup game can be parlayed into League success.
