USA vs. Argentina and Canada vs. Colombia, 2026 She Believes Cup: Match thread
The 2026 She Believes Cup, an annual international tournament hosted by the United States, kicks off today. This year’s competition features Argentina, Canada, and Colombia, in addition the hosting U.S. Women’s National Team.
In the first match of the tournament, tenth-ranked Canada take on 20th-place Colombia. Typically defensive-minded Canada have struggled under coach Casey Stoney, winning just four of 10 friendlies last year (while losing the other six). Colombia, meanwhile, had a varied 2025, featuring several ties, and are known for an aggressive, physical style of play. Both teams are preparing for additional competitions later in the year: Colombia is fighting to qualify for the 2027 World Cup through the CONMEBOL Women’s Nations League, while Canada will feature in the 2026 FIFA Series. Finally, two Washington Spirit players are expected to play in this match: Gabrielle Carle and Leicy Santos.
In the evening, the hosts will play Argentina. Argentina are probably the weakest team in the tournament, ranked 30th by FIFA, but coming off a third place finish in last year’s Copa América. The two last played in October 2024, when the USWNT won 3-0. For the US, this series is a chance to firm up their roster and start a focus on building chemistry. All players on the squad have been capped before — a rarity during Emma Hayes’s tenure.

Gabby and Leicy are both starting in Canada for Colombia. Leicy has the captain’s armband for Las Cafeteras.
Looking pretty frustrating for both Canada and Colombia before I switch to United.
I think there is a chance Canada scored right after you switched.
Must have.
Santos with a nice looking through ball to put Caicedo in on goal. Kailen Sheridan up to the task for Canada however.
Carle subs out for Canada in the 71st minute.
Well, looks like my stalemate call was way off, comfortable scoreline for Canada that puts some pressure on the US to run up the goal differential later.
Santos with a goal on a penalty.
Dear lord, we’re starting Heaps.
Heaps scores with a fine top of the box finish, but the Argentina defense was so comically slopping to the right side that no one was within 12 yards of her for the shot.
Argentina’s dark arts are working
It’s not all clean, but they are really going for it, and the flow is not matching the talent for the US so far
I’m just saying: these players appear to have the structural integrity of dandelions, and the ref is largely buying it.
I definitely would like it if we didn’t give every other country in our hemisphere such a deeply embedded sense that our country needs to be taken down a peg and the rest need to be protected, but that’s always in play.
Not saying it’s corrupt, but marginal bias hurts us pretty consistently
Think we need to yank Shaw. She’s not in control, and if there was VAR, would have had an incredibly unnecessary red for kicking a defender in spite after a pull down.
Maybe just hungry to climb the depth chart and doesn’t like the tackles, but she’s reckless, impatient, and petulant out there.
Needs a sub and a talk.
Seeing the Argentina defense on the goal, it’s just friggin 6 year old level.
Still, only one goal, and it’s time to put some players out there that channel to goal more effectively with their roles and understanding.
Atrocious goalkeeping strikes again as Shaw’s shot slips through
Reale looks to be a sub to get subbed, due to a tough tackle that she got up from but seems to have caught up to her.
This is an example of the five sub rule being humane and good for the sport.
Think that’s another lousy offside call that penalizes the quick feet of a US forward.
Sentnor was also designed in a lab to dribble the goalie 1 v 1
