DC United @ CF Montréal: Preview, time, and how to watch
DC United heads north of the border tonight as they return to MLS action on the road against CF Móntreal. DC United enters the match 3 points above the playoff line, while Montreal is 7 points back of DC United and looking to find some momentum.
After two weeks off, save for a friendly against Loudoun United, the team is back at it, and they look to build as they enter the final half of the season. Still, for head coach René Weiler, it’s business as usual as his team works to get better and put some space between them and the playoff line.
“[We always have] the same principles to defend well or sometimes even better to create the goal scoring chances,” Weiler said to the media this week. “They are always the same principles as team and then of course individually, to have a better first touch, to have a better shot, to cross better. They are always the same principles. So we don’t change anything.”
New signing Kimito Nono has acquired his visa and is available for selection tonight. Conner Antley will be with the Tampa Bay Rowdies for the rest of the season, as he was sent there on loan last week. Weiler said they’re always checking for more options that they think could bolster their chances of making the playoffs. “We are always trying to step up our team. But I don’t like to describe not a position we are looking for because I want to give our players, we have here the belief in them and the trust. And yeah, there is a never ending process with looking for new players,” Weiler said on the team’s active approach to the transfer window.
They need to get off the ground on the road and use the match against Montreal to spring into the back half of the season. It’s only the second road match for the Black-and-Red since the league’s restart after the World Cup, and getting 3 points to continue their unbeaten streak will be vital to keep pace in the playoff chase.

I’m really confused by what happened after that, DCU were in possession when the ref blew the whistle. And he not only gave Montreal the dead ball start, but the Montreal goalie didn’t kick it deep to DC, which one surely would expect if the play had been stopped for an injured Montreal player. I feel it should have also gone back to DC in this situation, when Hopkins was clocked by a Montreal player.
DC lucky not to be down by at least a goal here at half to Montreal.

Probably can’t sustain that level of intensity for 90, so there’s a real shot of knicking one, especially with Ordaz to come in. Peglow could have some fun, too. Might also see Kijima sub in for Hopkins, maybe Markovic comes in and Peltola moves into midfield.

Kurokawa was knocked off his feet, but he wasn’t protecting his face. The ball was away and he played it with both hands. A clear handball. The only question being whether he was fouled or just not strong enough in a coming together.

Yes, Montreal had chances, and really threw a lot at us in their home stadium, but we limited composed moments very well, and some of the breakdowns and near misses were quality play rather than disorganized execution
We drew a game that was competitive when the field was tilted, the ref truly looked more like a Montreal standard bearer late on charging forward with them
I wonder what the deal is with Peglow. If previous patterns hold it means he’s on the way out. But maybe he’s injured in some way.
He did get starts in the first 3 matches since the World Cup break, and went 90 mins in the game before, against Nashville. He hasn’t been incredibly effective, but getting off one day when they have 3 games in 10 days upcoming? Yeah, I would’ve expected him to come on before Stroud, but I wouldn’t read much into this.
Baribo continues to be extremely dangerous. All he needs is good service, and Nono sure provided that. Outside of the two DPs, I think he may prove to be the most interesting pick-up in some time. The team needs to be more progressive with the ball, but they were preoccupied by Owusu, I guess.
