DC Power overcome late first half mistakes to draw Spokane Zephyr in home opener
DC Power FC was able to fight back to earn a 2-2 draw against Spokane Zephyr in the first home match of the 2025-26 season. Emily Colton got the goal in the first half before former Washington Spirit Lena Silano got 2 goals in 3 minutes for Spokane Zephyr. Sydney Cummings, getting the start against her former club, equalized in the 76th minute for DC Power.
There was a lot of excitement in the stands as the small crowd was boisterous for the entire match, and it fed the team early. DC Power got the action started very early when Alexis Theoret took a shot from outside the box that hit the crossbar. There wasn’t a lot of action in the first 15 minutes. In the 17th minute, Claire Constant went down with an injury and after some treatment, had to be subbed off. “I haven’t spoken to the medical people, but we’ll assess it and see where she’s at,” DC Power head coach Omid Namazi said after the match. “It didn’t look good, but who knows, it could be something where a couple weeks may get her back on the field. I just have no idea, to be honest with you.”

DC Power were able to get on the board first. In the 25th minute, the team had some crisp passing that put them on the edge of the box. Anna Bagley received a pass and got it to the feet of Gianna Gourley. The ball bounced around in some traffic, but Emily Colton was able to run up and smash it home to make it 1-0.
“I think when the ball went back the net kind of blacked out a little bit,” Colton said after the match. “I was like, ‘oh my gosh, I scored.’ But I think I just remember we put the pressure on and we won it. I think it went to Anna [Bagley] and then to [Gianna Gourley] and then it was right in front of me and I took my chance.”
After the goal, Spokane started to press the issue, and it paid off just before halftime. In the 44th minute, former Washington Spirit and current Spokane Zephyr forward Lena Silano, in her return to Audi Field, got her head on a cross from Cameron Tucker and sent the ball past goalkeeper Morgan Aquino into the net to level the score at 1-1.
Just a couple minutes later, Lena was able to finish another one. Off the corner, Ally Cook was able to head the ball in the air towards the net. Silano, with a DC Power defender on her right on the goal line, saw the ball fall towards her and she was able to direct it off her head into the net to make it 2-1 Spokane at the break.
In the second half, DC Power wanted to come out firing like they did to start the match. They made a couple of subs, but the play was pretty choppy. DC Power was able to control possession and continue to press for a goal. That patience paid off. In the 76th minute off a corner, the ball bounced around a bit in the box and fell to Alexis Theoret, who fired a shot. That shot went right to Sydney Cummings, who was able to redirect it home from 5 yards to tie the match at 2-2.
“Yeah, I mean, obviously “I was trying to get my head on it at first, which I did make contact with it, but in the wrong direction. And then when I bounced up and I think it was Alexis [Theoret] that took the shot, and then I realized it was coming right at me and I was in a pretty decent spot,” Cummings said after the match. “So it was really just making sure I got good contact with it, putting enough pace on it that it was on frame, and then it was like a delayed reaction before I realized that, ‘oh, my God. I actually just did that. And now we’re tied.’ And that’s really great.”
Both teams tried to get the game winner, but Spokane came the closest in the 2nd minute of second half stoppage time. Cameron Tucker had an amazing through ball that found Shea Collins in the center of the box. However, her shot went just wide left and soon after, the referee blew the whistle for full time.

DC Power moves to 1W-0L-1D on the season thus far, and they’re back in action at Audi Field on September 12th against Lexington SC.
