Loudoun United to play West Chester United in Open Cup play
Loudoun United learned about the first step in their 2025 US Open Cup campaign on Wednesday afternoon, playing on the road on March 18 to West Chester United. The game will beon Tuesday, March 18 at YSC Sports Complex in Wayne, Pennsylvania, sandwiched between away dats on Saturday, March 15 at North Carolina FC and Saturday, March 22 at Louisville City FC.
For 2025 the Open Cup changed their competition rules so that increased participation by MLS teams who mostly passed on the 2024 version, despite LAFC ultimately winning the tournament. As a result, Loudoun, who began Open Cup play in the third round in 2024, enters play at the first round this year, alongside 7 other USL Championship sides, 14 USL League One and 9 League Two teams, 10 MLS Next Pro teams and teams from the NPSL, UPSL and National Amateur Cup. Of note, Virginia Dream FC also qualified for the tournament this year, supported by a performance by former D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid. The first round winners will play each other on April 1-2 and in the second round, with those winners playing the remaining 16 USL Championship sides in the third round on April 15-16.
MLS sides, including D.C. United, will enter in the Round of 32 on May 6-7.

Thanks, Ryan. I hope that you’ll pay special attention to Virginia Dream FC AND Bill Hamid’s progress.
