Happy Tuesday! It is an especially happy one for me because it is my last day of work before I go on a long weekend trip to Staunton, VA. You may be hearing from me later in the week, but I am looking forward to taking some time off from my real job.

FIFA Said to Be Close to TV Deal With Apple for New Tournament (New York Times)
If finalized, this deal for the Club World Cup would be the first time for one company to get worldwide rights for a FIFA tournament. I’m not really crazy about the streaming services to get into

Barcelona to request El Clasico replay if ‘ghost goal’ error can be proven (Pro Soccer Wire)
More drama from Europe around ref calls. Barcelona are investigating whether a goal that was called off during their loss to Real Madrid this weekend actually went in. VAR already checked it, and there’s no goal-line technology, so I’m not exactly sure how they’ll prove their case.

For the second week in a row, a Spirit player is up for Goal of the Week. This time, it’s Croix Bethune for her outside-the-box banger to put Washington ahead.

Where deals stand on MLS transfer deadline eve: New deal for Puig, Cincy’s U-22 forward and more (The Athletic)
Nothing concrete on any Black-and-Red pick-ups, but among the rumors is one that former D.C. United homegrown Griffin Yow could back to MLS or to a new European team this summer.

MLS Power Rankings: Whitecaps stay strong, Revs remain dismal (ESPN)
I regret to inform you that NY Red Bulls are currently at the top of these rankings.

The local teams haven’t been giving us a ton of fun content lately, but here’s Washington’s Anna Heilferty (and Mayor Bowser) wishing you a happy Earth Day:

Have a good day!

Loved Croix Bethune’s goal. But objectively, I’d say as sweet as it is, King’s is taken from further out and I rate a little better. But Bethune’s outclasses the others in the vote.

I was always a fan of Yow. Ben said he was always the best finisher in practice. So now he’s started to bring it in games–good for him. I’d love to see him come back home. As a striker or attacker or even as a wingback he’d be such a welcome addition–providing just what the Doctor ordered for us (another scoring threat).

I think at this point it’s clear he’s not really a good fit at wingback. But I think he could do really well as the second striker up top next to Benteke. Which would also allow KDP to challenge Pirani at CAM.

I think that Yow is a withdrawn goal-facing striker. His strength is facing a goal with a touch or two and blasting a cracker of a shot.

As I said on a previous post, he’d be a more valuable player in this system, though to my mind, he’s more a Stroud upgrade or a TKD replacement (he’d also probably mean Fletcher is an eternal sub, which I’d be ok with based on recent opportunities). Doesn’t seem like wingback material- his weakness is covering acres of space with top speed. He’s a high energy, direct player with good skill who would make an impact.

I would be shocked if he returns to DC. There’s the salary aspect, the visibility question, but more importantly, he’s gotta have a grudge about his treatment, both in the squad depth and in the leaving. Would be happy to see him back, but I bet his judgement on the subject is already weighed heavily against it- and we probably couldn’t afford to unstick him.

Maybe Westerlo needs a new left back……One can dream.

It makes no sense for a club to argue that a scoreline should be changed post game. Game state is crucial to any match.

Cavan

Agreed. They’re just being crybabies. Nothing more.

Just getting caught up on some of the weekend action around the league, and Seattle had Jackson Regan and Alex Roldan sent off with red cards against Vancouver, and they also just traded Xavier Arreaga to New England. So their defense will be significantly below normal strength for them when they come to Audi Field. Hopefully DC can take advantage of that.

Will especially be appetizing for our offensive subs, right, subs?

……… Subs???

Subs!!!!!

Tyler Miller, target forward.

Oh, how I laughed at this

Sunspot

I mean, he’s a great passer, maybe he could pass it into the opposing goal if he’s further up …
