DC Power FC is back on the field tonight at home as they take on Lexington SC, the reigning USL Super League champions. DC Power is looking to create some more separation above the playoff line with a win tonight. The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, but DC Power moved the match up to this evening to accommodate the Washington Spirit’s quarterfinal home match.

The team is currently sitting in second place in the league table, but the difference between second place and fifth place is only three points. Lexington sits above the playoff line, tied with Dallas Trinity on points with 14 but ahead on goal differential. But, DC Power is not just looking to get to the playoffs for the first time in their history. They want more.

“We also want to secure a home game,” head coach Omid Namazi said earlier this week to media. “So finishing second place and trying to get that semifinal at home is…our next goal. But the ultimate goal is winning the championship, and I feel like this team can win it. There’s no reason why we can’t.”

Being the team people chase rather than the chasers is a new thing for DC Power. However, the players say they are ready for the challenge while also chasing silverware of their own.

I honestly think that there’s different types of pressure in general. But that type of pressure is more of a privilege, rather than chasing,” forward Alyssa Walker said. “[Because] when you’re chasing, you feel like you’re lacking something, right? I mean, in all honesty, you are lacking points. So, when it comes to being ahead, it’s that type of pressure that pushes you to stay more on your toes…obviously, we can’t get complacent, because we don’t have that much room to get complacent, nor should we ever. We should always be working to get to the next level and get to the next stage.”

DC Power hopes to take that next step with a win tonight against Lexington to put some more distance between themselves and the playoff line and inch further to capturing that playoff spot.
