Washington, DC to host 2026 NWSL Championship at Audi Field
The 2026 NWSL Championship finally (officially) has a home, and it’s one that will be particularly exciting for Washington Spirit fans. The final match of the year is set to take place at Audi Field in Washington, DC on Saturday, November 21, the league announced this morning.
DC last hosted the Championship match in 2022, when the Portland Thorns defeated Kansas City Current 2-0 in front of a crowd of 17,624 fans. In the intervening years, the women’s soccer community in DC has grown, and the stadium, often called “Rowdy Audi” is now considered one of the best places to play in the league, featuring a passionate fanbase and frequent sell-out crowds. This year, the Spirit have sold out three of five home games so far. (The two not sold out were on Wednesday nights.)
“Washington, D.C. has become one of the premier destinations for women’s soccer, with an incredibly engaged fan base, a vibrant soccer culture and a community that continues to champion the growth of our game,” Commissioner Jessica Berman said.
Tickets for the Championship match will go on sale this summer. In addition to the game itself, the league will host a series of events around it in DC, including the NWSL Awards ceremony, NWSL Skills Challenge, and Fan Fest.
The venue presents a big opportunity for the Washington Spirit, currently in 4th place in the NWSL standings. Their past two years of playoff runs have shown how well they respond to their home crowd at Audi Field, winning all four of their home playoff games. A final here could be just the boost they need to win the prize that has eluded them… if they can make it that far.
