DC United vs. Orlando City: Preview, time, and how to watch
DC United are back at home at Audi Field tonight as they take on Orlando City in their 5th match in 14 days. The Black-and-Red are coming off a wild 4-4 road draw against the New York Red Bulls.
United want to see their goals turn into three points tonight as they seek to stay in sight of the playoff line in the Eastern Conference. With 9 points from a 2W-3D-4L record, they need to continue putting the ball into the net and couple that with better defense. Meanwhile, Orlando (2W-1D-6L, 7 points) has struggled to start the season and they’re looking to build upon a 4-1 home win midweek to Charlotte FC. DC United has not won since they beat the Chicago Fire on the road back on March 14th, and they know a win can add a boost of adrenaline to their loaded schedule over the next few weeks.

Shake-up in the lineup, Baribo is out today, and LOUIS gets the start:
Johnson; Hefti, Bartlett, Rowles, Kurokawa; Herrera, Peltola, Servania, Peglow; Hopkins, Munteanu
Back to goose egg central, then.
Hey now, Peltola might rip one in from 30 yards out
Maybe Jackson Hopkins is going to score again?
Louis starting against MLS opposition.
Let’s see if he manages to duck my expectations. And no, I do not mean “buck.”
Two things are clear.
Our winning odds, according to that graphic, have not been nearly this high at any point this year.
And the odds don’t know a fucking thing about our DPs.
Orlando’s Iago was certainly cartoonishly villainous on that yellow card earning push of Louis out of bounds.
Dude, relax, it’s Louis, not Mbappe. Crazy decision
That’s an insane shot from Hopkins into the low corner
1-0
Hopkins! He does his best Peltola impersonation to score from distance. 1-0
“Peltola impersonation”–Hahaha!
DC does have to realize that Orlando are playing a 5-3-2, and you do have to get someone to track the wingbacks. Giving them way to much room out there, allowing a pretty weak team to be dangerous at the thing they want to do.
Bartlett with the deserved yellow.
He’s not the CB I would like Markovic to stand in for with a suspension, so let’s hope this works out
Kurokawa made Crepeau work on a free kick, and then Peglow goes for the Olympico on the corner, which Crepeau hit out as well
Louis isn’t the most recognizable physical profile out there, but I have figured out a tell.
If the player was effective and involved in the play, it wasn’t Louis.
But, glad we’ve got the lead at half.
1-0 at the half. DC has been the better team, let’s see if they can keep it up in the second half (and if the team’s legs hold up that long)
Stroud subs in for Herrera
And the commentator says that Stroud is very dangerous on the right wing?
They’ve been particularly heinous in their ignorance tonight
Damn
Orlando ties it up after a bit of chaos in front of goal
We left the ball too much in Orlando’s court this half, punished for it.
1-1
Servania is down for quite a while, and is now limping quite a bit. Would not be surprised to see Markovic here
He’s able to stay in for now
Hopkins is likely going to have to come out quick
Now Hopkins is down holding his ankle
Well this game is flipped on its head….
2-1 to Orlando off of a crazy goal
Well, we tempted it.
We also have a DP out there who even the kindest couldn’t find a useful moment from, let alone dominance or leadership
Thankfully this third one is offside…and this has all changed since Herrera came off and Stroud came on and we are getting owned on the right side.
Think this one will stand
Wow, guess not, but not due to reality
Looked onside to me in the stadium, but I was pretty far from the play with no angle.
Whoever the CB on the line was, his stride I definitely thought kept him level. VAR chickened. But, we wouldn’t have won, so I’ll take it.
That has to be red.
So what happens if a player is subbed off but on VAR its a red to the player just subbed off?
That Orlando player faked an injury to cool the color on the card.
Peltola’s fine, thankfully.
Get fucked.
Murrell and Markovic on for Hopkins and Hefti
Good service by Stroud, but, while it was cinematic, that’s actually a very bad miss by Louis and a poor choice of attempted placement to boot.
The attempted placement was fine, but yeah, way too cinematic. Looked unnecessary, like he could’ve struck it normally.
I mean that, due to the goalie’s positioning, anything across goal broadly would have likely gone in.
Near post was both a lower percentage chance and where the goalie was
Well Louis bags a goal in his first MLS start….on a deflected shot.
LOUIS scores! He’s not *totally* useless!
That deflection was more useful than he’s been for 84 minutes, but let’s try to win this
Massive deflection for Louis knifes it in. Not even clear where the shot was angled before it.
Game on
Rowles!!!
Rowles caps it off
3-2! Rowles!
The ref had to call an audible when he saw we scored before stoppage. Gotta give (not DC) a chance
Actually quite weird for the commentator to praise Louis for getting a very fortunate foul after taking it off Peltola’s foot completely unnecessarily as the Finn carried it like an all star.
Commentator thinks it was clutch earning the foul, Louis just needs Peltola to look a little less good.
For the NJ draw, I said the high scoring wasn’t entirely out of keeping with our Philly goose egg. And I stand by that, think that was the case
This one, however, was anarchy.
Wow. After we went down 2-1, no Baribo, I figured “stick a fork in us, we’re done.” I’ll take it.
