DC United @ New England Revolution: Preview, time, and how to watch
DC United is back on the road tonight as they take on the New England Revolution in MLS play. It’s the start of a busy stretch for the Black-and-Red, and they hope to rebound from a humiliating 4-0 home loss last weekend to FC Dallas.
René Weiler has said that the team quit during the final stretch of the FC Dallas match and he and the team have said they have addressed it and want to move forward. “As a professional soccer player, you don’t have a choice,” Weiler said during press availability. “There is a next chance. That is the positive side of our business.” But, despite the positivity about moving forward and applying the energy to the next match, he said you can’t forget the low points. “We shouldn’t forget it. But we have to play this game better,” he remarked. “It’s about the mindset that all starts with the selection of the players. So to get back [to] a winner’s mentality, this takes time and maybe it’s a little bit more deep rooted. But, we are on the way to change it.”
The Black-and-Red may be without forward Tai Baribo, who leads the team in goals scored so far this season. He felt tightness in his leg and asked to be substituted during the Dallas match last weekend, and he is questionable for tonight’s match. Weiler said that he could make the bench, but may also be out completely. They will be without defender Sean Nealis for a while, as he had surgery on Thursday to repair a broken clavicle that he suffered during the match last weekend. He will be out 6-8 weeks.
DC United has an incredibly busy stretch coming up, with 11 matches (potentially 13 should they advance in the U.S. Open Cup) in the next 50 days. That will mean rest and recovery is key, but it also means that the players have to fight on the field for every single point they can before the league shuts down for the 2026 World Cup. That means getting some respect back that they may have lost in the Dallas defeat.
“[When] the pressure’s hot is when you can really make decisions and make people discuss things,” captain Lucas Bartlett said of last weekend’s match. “And I think that’s what we did. I think guys addressed it. We took accountability and we said it’s not acceptable, especially against a team like Dallas and especially in front of our home fans. It’s not acceptable. So the plan is to really try to earn that trust back. And it starts with good energy.”
That energy is necessary against a New England squad that’s just below DC United in the Eastern Conference table. The team will once again need to be road warriors to get a result in Foxborough tonight before coming home for US Open Cup action.

Well Old Glory went in and did a smash and grab win 21-19 in at Ft Quincy aka Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy, MA today. So let’s see if the good juju continues and another DC team beats another NE team.

Hard to understate how feeble the attack is. At the end of this weekend, we might end up as the only team with fewer goals than games played…and let’s say we don’t score tonight and we finish next week’s game at Philly with a blessed 0-0 tie, we’d have twice as many points as goals scored. Something to shoot for?

Well the US Women Eagle XVs were down to New Zealand’s Black Ferns at half 19-15…then New Zealand rolled in the 2nd half and just won 48-15….
Well that was a whiff that should’ve been in….

Outstanding free kick service by Yow. DC United sure could use that.
It’s a very lively end to this game, lots of energy being expended late. But it’s basically all us rebuffing in our defensive half, while NE are like “come on, we NEED a second, we effin need this!”
Turner gets a robust shot off, though not particularly close to on frame. But seeing that sorta thing, I was like, oh, right, we’re allowed to do that!
It saddens me that Hosei Kijima cannot get any minutes, and at this point I’m finding it deeply unfair to the player, despite his limitations.
It saddens me even more that we are so, so far away from being a good enough team that Hosei Kijima getting no minutes would legitimately be an irrelevant footnote.
DC have kept more games close than last year, which gives this side a sense of competitiveness. Doesn’t matter too much though. Based on returns to date, this might be one of the worst attacking sides I’ve seen in Levien era. Hopefully they can find another gear in the final third.
They have to sacrifice a lot of forward momentum due to a lack of a great partner for Peltola (one who carries and distributes, but can back Peltola if he advances) and an actual DP second striker to tie the room together. That’s maybe even more important than Baribo’s role, which is why the FO spent money there, but Louis is clearly a marginal gain, if that.
