DC Power FC get crucial road win over Tampa Bay Sun
DC Power FC needed three important points in their road trip to Tampa Bay Sun and they were able to get it. On Saturday night, they controlled the match to earn a 2-0 win and keep their playoff hopes alive. Alyssa Walker and Dasia Torbert had two first half goals to lead the team.
There wasn’t much going in the first 15 minutes for either team, as it felt they were trying to avoid any mistakes that the other could capitalize upon. However, it was DC Power that struck first in the 18th minute. Alyssa Walker was able to get the ball from a Loza Abera long ball forward. While dribbling just behind a couple of Tampa Bay defenders, Walker fired a chip from 25 yards that Tampa Bay goalkeeper Emory Wegener could do nothing about. The goal gave DC Power the 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later, they would double their lead on a great team goal. After DC kept it alive in the box, the ball popped back out to Paige Almendariz. Almendariz sent a cross into the box, where Dasia Torbert headed it home to give Power the 2-0 lead.
DC Power entered halftime with that 2-0 lead and a lot of confidence, hoping to keep the energy going in the second half.
The second half began and DC Power attempted to maintain control of the tempo. In the 58th minute, Tampa Bay almost got one back when Carlee Giammona hit the post. Five minute later, Sandrine Gaillard also got a shot off from a Sabrina McNeill cross that required a Makenna Gottschalk save. DC was still able to keep the Sun off the scoreboard from those two good chances to maintain the 2-0 lead.
Tampa Bay had another opportunity in the 80th minute where they were able to get a couple of shots on goal. However, the DC Power defense did its job, blocking both attempts and keeping the Sun scoreless. They would hold them the rest of the way, with the referee ending the game after seven minutes of stoppage time to make the win official, their first since March 21st.
With the win, DC Power are now just three points underneath the playoff line with 4 matches to play. They will need to continue to bring the goalscoring to keep those hopes alive. But, coming home from Florida with three points is incredibly important to that playoff chase.

They needed that win.
