DC Power FC vs. Lexington SC: Preview, time, and how to watch

DC Power FC looks to rebound tonight when they take on Lexington SC in a crucial home match at Audi Field. DC Power are looking to get as many points as possible to try and get above the playoff line.

With just seven matches left, DC Power are sitting in fifth place in the Gainbridge Super League standings with 26 points, and they’re just a few points below the playoff line. Head coach Omid Namazi has said repeatedly that every match the rest of the season is like a final, and he knows the setback suffered with the loss last week to Tampa Bay Sun means they have to make up some ground.

“We really had a letdown against Tampa and that’s a little worrying,” Namazi said yesterday during media availability. “I feel like we have enough players with character and perseverance in terms of getting everybody riled up and come with energy against Lexington. So hopefully you’ll see that and hopefully we can push the game and make them really have to defend us as opposed to us chasing the ball and defending deep in our end.”

We’ve got to take it game by game,” Katrina Guillou said. We have seven [matches] left, but of course we’ve gotta focus on the one that’s facing us right ahead. So that’ll be tomorrow. Each team poses their own challenges, so [we’re] just trying to pull off all the experience that we’ve had from previous games and putting it into the next one and just keeping that cohesion going.”

In Lexington, DC Power are facing the team that’s second in the table and has won two matches in a row. The two teams have drawn twice this season, with a 0-0 draw coming at Audi Field back on September 12th and a 2-2 on December 13th in Lexington. Namazi said that the team has been working on maintaining their energy and finishing in front of goal to put points on the board and pressure on the opponent’s defense.

“As I’ve always said, the finishing of our opportunities and then the energy and urgency we bring about our game, I think that sets the tone for us,” Namazi stated. “Whenever we have good energy, we’ve been able to beat even the best team in the league. And when we lack that energy, it’s a struggle, it’s a back-and-forth game and sometimes we have drop points where we should have won the game, to be honest. So energy, intensity and then finishing our opportunities, those are three things that we really have to take care of in order to come up with the points that we need to get into the playoffs against Lexington.”

With a little over a month of soccer remaining in the regular season, DC Power need a win tonight to keep pace for the playoffs. A loss would create even more of a hole with the regular season opportunities dwindling.
