Let’s rank the 2026 MLS jerseys

The 2026 Major League Soccer season is just a week away from beginning, and the kickoff happened this week with the release of the 2026 jerseys. All 30 teams in the league got either a new home or new away jersey and their hope is that the new uniforms resonate with their fans and become fashion statements in their communities.

This year’s jersey offerings are a mixed bag. Some teams decided to go for it with a design they hoped would bring their fanbase together. Others preferred simple designs where the team colors did the talking. There were some bold choices and some that really didn’t feel like effort was placed into it. Some choices fell flat, while others soared above the masses to stand out in a big way.

But now that all 30 teams have released their jerseys, we all know what time it is: it’s time to rank them! Of course, let us know in the comments which jerseys you enjoyed the most and which ones need to go back to the drafts where they belong. We go from worst to first in these rankings, so let’s start with the jersey wooden spoon:

30. Nashville SC (Reverb Kit)

Nashville SC has the chance to do some really cool things with their color scheme. That’s why it’s always disappointing when they come with something plain. The center crest makes this jersey no better than a knockoff you see on the rack outside the stadium for $20. It’s easily the most disappointing of the jerseys.

29. Inter Miami CF (Presagio Kit)

You win MLS Cup and you come back with a plain jersey? You have Lionel Messi and you come with a plain jersey? They’re still gonna sell a billion, but they get 0 points for creativity and -100 points for effort. Again, a perfect color scheme ruined by no attempt to use them in a bold way.

28. Colorado Rapids (Colorful Colorado Kit)

This kit is called the Colorful Colorado Kit, yet they went with a black jersey that doesn’t really have much of any other color. They once again had a chance to do something really sweet and opted for using a color that is not a part of their color scheme that they’ve never used before.

27. St. Louis City SC (Tina Turner Kit)

Tina Turner deserved better with this. The concept is there, but execution to this Tina Turner fan fell flat. It would have served better with more Tina Turner references and a deeper use of red trim to bring everything together. The jock tag on the bottom front hem is the only way you will be able to associate this with Tina Turner, and that’s disappointing.

26. Columbus Crew (Crafted for Excellence Kit)

It’s very yellow, which is what Columbus wants. The collar brings it down quite a bit, but it’s just not an inspiring jersey. This is just a case of the team going “here you go, it’s yellow” and that’s what we got.

25. Austin FC (Rooted Kit)

The design is nice, but the pale green vertical stripes don’t quite accomplish the job. For a kit that’s supposed to conjure the feelings of the team spreading its roots in the community, a bolder color would have been better to show those roots.

24. San Diego FC (Unprecedented Unity Kit)

This doesn’t feel…unified. It’s an attempt, but it just doesn’t hit right.

23. Seattle Sounders (Evergreen State Kit)

Apologies to Seattle, but nothing was beating their previous home kit, which was one of the best in MLS history. This is an expected letdown, even if it still looks pretty decent.

22. CF Montreal (Procure Jersey)

The cause for which they’re creating this jersey for is an important one, partnering with ProCure to fight against prostate cancer. The design leaves a bit to be desired, and they could probably do more with their team colors to tie it all together.

21. Sporting Kansas City (18th & Vine Kit)

18th & Vine is an important area in Black history and American history. This design is a pretty bold attempt, but it feels unfinished so that they can fit the jersey sponsor in there. The unfinished look actually creates a busy look that could have been avoided by having the design just run through.

20. Houston Dynamo (Mission Control Kit)

Houston should have a purple jersey option, and this one’s a decent design. Having the highway and bayous be the source of the design is a nice tieback, but the overall design could be cleaned up a bit.

19. Portland Timbers (Civic Stadium Kit)

The color is beautiful, but the design could have been more pronounced. Adding some more color would have really made this stand out as one of the best, but the muted design drops it back.

18. Red Bull New York (Rooted Kit)

This is a better Rooted jersey than Austin’s, and having the old Metrostars colors hits a lot better. But still, it feels too much like an energy drink can (ironically, closer to that of Red Bull’s main competitor). It’s unclear what would make this better, but it just doesn’t have the juice.

17. Chicago Fire (Forever Red)

Having the old Chicago Fire design back makes the league whole. This is a solid design, though the collar doesn’t feel like it adds anything to it. This would be even better with some light blue elements to tie the city flag look together.

16. Vancouver Whitecaps (Coastal Kit)

It may be a plain design, but it’s a solid color combo. The design on the sleeve cuffs and collar is interesting and feels like it resonates with the community. It’s not much, but the crest absolutely pops against that jersey, and that’s a good thing.

15. Charlotte FC (Carolina Kit: Crowns Up)

Raise your hand if. you remembered that Charlotte FC has been in the league 5 years already? They go back to their first year design, which was a good one. They didn’t have to do too much, so they didn’t. The sleeve cuffs and design are a bit weird, but this is a straight middle-of-the-pack design overall.

14. DC United (Black-and-Red Kit)

Our beloved DC United has their home kit finish just above mid-table. That’s good enough to get into the playoffs, right? The Black-and-Red just stayed simple with their home look. The sleeve cuffs are cool in my mind, but bringing the same design to the collar was the main miss.

13. FC Cincinnati (Seven Hills Kit)

This is a nice departure from their other away kits. The two tones of orange looks nice, and it’s a color that Cincinnati should continue to embrace. It feels like they could do more with it instead of it being on a white jersey.

12. LA Galaxy (VeloCITY Kit)

A solid offering from the Galaxy. They lean into the sash, even with a jagged design, and more importantly they get rid of the gold MLS star that was supposed to mean 5 titles by itself. They stayed true to the design that has become part of their brand, and that worked.

11. Toronto FC (Winter Kit)

Toronto, thank you! You’ve finally shed yourself of some of the worst away kits in MLS history. By doing a simple design with the secondary crest, you’ve made your team look 1000x better. It would be terrific if they paired these with some red shorts from time to time.

10. New York City FC (All Nations Kit)

NYCFC always has a home jersey that has to be somewhat standardized to the City Football Group look, so the away jersey is where they can take some risks. This color and design combo is really nice and it’s. a unique look that will look really good on the field.

9. Real Salt Lake (Switchback Kit)

The red and blue look for RSL is a beautiful, with just the right amount of gold to tie it all together. The hoops are outstanding and it’s a jersey where they didn’t overthink it. A smart design, bold team colors, and just let them do the talking. Well done.

8. Minnesota United FC (Decade Kit)

Minnesota routinely has some of the best jerseys in the league, and this latest one is no exception. The subtle sash created by a really cool design makes for a terrific look, and it should look beautiful on the field.

7. Orlando City (Sunken Treasure Kit)

This is the best jersey Orlando has ever done. They finally lean into the bold yellow from the lion on their crest, and it works so well. The sublimated design really makes this jersey feel great, and the purple and white trim brings it all together. This is going to excel on the field.

6. Los Angeles FC (Primary Kit)

The art deco-like design here is fantastic. LAFC gives their fans the black and the gold and they really lean into it with huge success. These will be among the best jerseys in the entire league.

5. San Jose Earthquakes (The Dead Kit)

Finally, the Quakes do something to honor the Grateful Dead. And they nail it. It’s amazing what a tie dye jersey can do, but the colors they use really make the jersey incredible. Deadheads and Quakes fans alike are going to enjoy this one.

4. Atlanta United (Spirit of ’96 Kit)

What a remarkable 30-year tribute to the 1996 Olympics that were held in Atlanta. The vertical sash is fantastic with the crest resembling a gold medal and the green that was prominent during those Olympics. Atlanta really did well here.

3. Philadelphia Union (1776 Kit)

Wow, Philly’s jersey is great. Celebrating the semiquincentennial with a Declaration of Independence jersey is so clever and it works. It further pops with the Union’s gold trim and even the light blue on the back of the sleeve cuffs. Pulling this off to celebrate being the birthplace of America on its 250th birthday year is a tremendous testament.

2. FC Dallas (DNA Kit)

FC Dallas should be in hoops, full stop. This is a beautiful return to those roots. The hoops being red and navy with white trim between it makes it one of the best looks they’ve ever had. And, it stands out as one of the best looks in the league this season.

1. New England Revolution (Independence Day Kit)

The Revolution have done it with the best jersey of this year’s crop. The red and white streaks flowing from the Revs crest is stellar, and it creates a unique look that will look terrific on the field. Solid navy sleeves with red trim and red Adidas stripes brings it all together. Simply beautiful.

I’m not sure that I think the Revs didn’t just miss a beat, with the solid sleeves. I’ll have to see it out in the world. I do love the FC Dallas jersey. Perfection.

And the Union’s jersey really scores with the imagery, because they didn’t go for the overly sublimated marble and cherry blossoms in recent DCU jerseys. Those jerseys could have more seriously committed to the theme and they would’ve been awesome. Maybe they’ll give them each another shot. Actual images of the monuments (sans Trump’s arch) (maybe an old school White House withe old East Wing), and more prominent cherry blossom branches. If I were a Union fan, their jersey would be an instant buy. I might even get it because it’s that good. In retrospect, I feel DCU should’ve done something with the national sequicentennial. Maybe a giveaway?

The Quakes definitely had the right idea with a tie-dye look, I think they also failed to commit to the theme. Could’ve been better, but maybe they could revisit this.
