International Round Up: How Did The Spirit Players Fare?

With camp occurring outside of a normal FIFA international window, the USWNT drew upon a roster of domestic-based players for their matches against Paraguay and Chile. The absence of some Europe-based regulars didn’t phase the US in the least. The USWNT routed Paraguay 6-0 in Carson. Three nights later, a similar story played out in Santa Barbara, with the US downing Chile 5-0. How did the five Spirit players on the US roster do during this window? Let’s take a look.

Croix Bethune

After really just making a cameo appearance in the final international window of 2025, Bethune featured a great deal more this time around. In the USWNT’s rout of Paraguay, she subbed in for Reilyn Turner at the start of the second half. Croix got the start versus Chile and 18 minutes in opened up the scoring for the US. Bethune made way for Olivia Moultrie in the 63rd minute. In total, Bethune played 108 minutes across both games.

Bethune’s goal was her first at the international level. After the game she explained her goal celebration. You can see it below.

Hal Hershfelt

Hershfelt featured in both games, playing 117 minutes in total for the US. In the first match, she entered in the 63rd minute for teammate Tara Rudd and featured as the center back in the US’s 3-4-3 formation. Hershfelt started against Chile and played the full match as one of the center backs in a 3-3-4 system.

Trinity Rodman

If it is possible for a USWNT camp to belong to a player, this one arguably belonged to Rodman. On Thursday, her new contract with the Spirit, which made her the highest paid female player in the world, was announced. Two days later, after a long battle with injuries she returned to the USWNT starting lineup and did so wearing the captain’s armband. Rodman scored her 12th international goal in the 56th minute before being subbed off for Emma Sears seven minutes later. Against Chile, she entered the match in the 64th minute for Yazmeen Ryan and scored almost immediately on a nifty cutback in the box. Rodman celebrated her goal by doing a dance with head coach Emma Hayes.

Tara Rudd

Returning to the USWNT, Rudd started against Paraguay going 63 minutes before making way for Herschfelt in the 63rd minute. For the game against Chile, Rudd was an unused substitute.

Kate Wiesner

Wiesner was on the bench but didn’t feature for the US against Paraguay. She made her third appearance for the US starting on the back line to the left of Hal Hershfelt. Maddie Dahlien came in to replace Wiesner in the 63rd minute.

With a rather large contingent of Spirit players in this camp, it seemed like elements of the team’s personality began seeping into the USWNT, as evidenced by Emma Hayes not only dancing with Rodman after her goal but appearing with Trinity and Croix in another video.
