The October international window is officially closed. After compiling the results from the matches featuring Spirit and Power players, its clear that trying to find information about some, but not all, of these teams is difficult. There were a bunch of sites that gave basic information if I wanted to bet on it. The “World Wide Leader in Sports” didn’t include a good number of these games among their scores despite having several lower men’s divisions listed. FIFA had the scores listed but not additional details like lineups. Federation sites had brief summaries that only highlighted a few players. Google searches turned up the last time their male counterparts faced off. I say this not to congratulate myself for trying, but as more of a reminder. Coverage of women’s sports has come a long way, but there is still a very long way to go. With that I will vacate my soapbox and get on to the results.  

Washington Spirit Internationals

Deborah Abiodun (Nigeria)

Abiodun started for Nigeria against Benin and was subbed of in the second half with an injury, the extent of which is unknown. Her coach Justin Madugu described it as manageable. As for the match, Nigeria drew 1-1, but locked in their spot at next years Africa Cup of Nations on a 3-1 aggregate. The Super Eagles are the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions.

Rebeca Bernal (Mexico)

Bernal started for Mexico and went the full 90 against New Zealand in Ciudad Juárez. Mexico won 2-0.  

Sofia Cantore (Italy)

Cantore started for Italy and went 66 minutes in their 1-0 loss to Brazil. (Side note, Brazil had a pretty good international window, traveling to Europe and knocking of two of the four semifinalists from this summer’s Euros.)

Gabby Carle (Canada)

Gabby Carle appeared in both of Canada’s friendlies over the break. Last Friday, she played the first 65 minutes and then was subbed of for Ashley Lawrence in Canada’s 1-0 loss to Switzerland. On Tuesday, it was the inverse against the Dutch. Carle subbed in for Ashley Lawrence in the 65th minute during Canada’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands.  

Rosemonde Kouassi (Ivory Coast)

Kouassi played 90 minutes in Ivory Coast’s second consecutive 0-0 draw with Senegal in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Rose kicked fifth for Ivory Coast in the shootout and converted her kick. Senegal however won the shootout 5-4 and locked in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Sandy MacIver (Scotland)

MacIver was on the bench but did not feature for Scotland as they took on the Swiss in Dunfermline. The Swiss defeated Scotland 4-3.

Tara McKeown (United States)

After going the full the full 90 for the USWNT on Thursday in their loss to Portugal, McKeown didn’t feature in either of the two following games. In the Sunday rematch against Portugal, she didn’t make the bench. McKeown was an unused substitute in the USWNT’s 6-0 rout of New Zealand. (If Brazil had a good international window, New Zealand had a bad one. In two games against Mexico and one against the US, New Zealand lost all three games, conceded nine goals, and scored none.)

Esme Morgan (England)

Morgan the full 90 minutes for England as they bounced back from loss to Brazil last Friday. The Matilda’s played most of the game down a player when Alanna Kennedy (of the London City Lionesses) drew a straight red in the 19th minute. Ultimately, England cruised to a 3-0 victory over their shorthanded opponent.

Leicy Santos (Colombia)

Santos started for Colombia and played the full 90 minutes in their win of Ecuador. She scored on a penalty shortly before half and received a yellow shortly after the half. Santos over all had a good international window, netting three goals in her time away.

Kysha Sylla (France)

Syllas’s didn’t make the bench for France in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Nations League semifinal against Germany. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after second half substitute Clara Mateo evened it up in the 89th minute. Despite the draw, Germany advanced to the Nation’s League Final against Spain on a 3-2 aggregate.

D.C. Power Internationals

Loza Abera (Ethiopia)

Abera featured for Ethiopia in there 1-0 defeat to Tanzania. Tanzania advance to the Africa Cup of Nations on a 3-0 aggregate.  

Charlie Estcourt (Wales)

Estcourt started for Wales and played the full 90 minutes. Unfortunately, Wales fell to Poland 5-2 in Newport.

Katrina Guillou and Carleigh Frilles (Philippines)

The Philippines played one match this window facing off against Uzbekistan in a friendly in Manila on Wednesday. Katrina Guillou started and Carleigh Frilles was on the bench. The Philippines jumped out to a 2-0 lead but conceded twice in the last half hour to settle for a draw. The last international window for this year will tun from November 24th through December 2nd.
