GALLERY: Relive the Spirit’s dramatic 2-1 win in photos

We here at The District Press are delighted to have started working with Jason Taylor, who has been providing us with matchday photography of Spirit games. You may have seen his work from such hits as a recent Instagram story from Trinity Rodman in which she shared his photo of a challenge she suffered in the box (along with select and quite frankly correct commentary).

Matchday photography is key in telling and re-telling stories from the game. Soccer is also a sport that places abnormal demands on the human body. As a result, as players react and execute throughout the flow of a game their bodies shift and contort in ways that aren’t immediately noticeable. It’s incredible to see those moments frozen in time: pointed toes, ankles made of elastic, and arms and torsos reshaped around physics, a round ball and any obstacles that might be in the way. Many of these movements can only be fully captured—and fully appreciated—through quality photography.

Alright, enough of my rambling romanticism. Here are 35 photos from Sunday’s late win over San Diego.

Match day photos would be better without the repeated identifier. Either a tag describing what’s happening in the photo or no photo at all.
