Angel City FC vs. Washington Spirit
Two ambitious sides collide under the lights on Thursday night as the Washington Spirit visit Angel City FC at BMO Stadium. Both teams are fighting for playoff security and chasing upward momentum in the Shield race, making this a can’t-miss late-season clash. Washington has been steadily climbing despite a depleted roster, while Angel City will be eager to protect home turf and bounce back from recent setbacks.
For the Spirit, resilience and teamwork have been the themes all season. “The more we understand each other, it becomes easier,” Croix Bethune said earlier this week—and that mentality will be essential against an Angel City side that thrives in front of its home fans. If Washington wants to make a statement on the West Coast, this is the stage to do it.
Key Player: Aubrey Kingsbury
The Spirit’s captain and cornerstone, Kingsbury will be under the spotlight in Los Angeles. With Angel City firing more than almost any team in the league, her shot-stopping, command of the box, and leadership will be essential if Washington is to walk away with points.
Watch Out For: Sarah Gorden & Riley Tiernan
Gorden’s defensive presence and recovery speed make her tough to beat one-on-one, while Tiernan brings fresh energy and creativity in Angel City’s midfield. Her ability to link play and spark attacking sequences makes her a key figure to watch.
Challenges:
- Washington Spirit: Depth will be tested again with several starters sidelined through injury, suspension, and maternity leave.
- Angel City FC: Key absences across defense and attack could leave gaps for Washington to exploit. Finding rhythm without consistent starters has been a hurdle.
Previously:
The Spirit have held their own in past meetings, but Angel City’s energy at BMO has made them a tough opponent. With both sides missing stars, this matchup could come down to which bench rises to the occasion.

With Bernal, Krueger, and Hal out, I’m curious about the line up. Have you ever considered adding a section that says potential line up to the preview?
Sounds like it’s available on Paramount, so I’ll be watching!
Or not?!?! Damn
I can’t get it either. Keeps giving Seattle v Louisville. Damn.
Unfortunately as I know from trying to catch Air Force Academy football (my dad is an alum and I grew up watching it) anything on CBS Sports Network tends to not be on Paramount+ whereas things on big CBS might be.
Match ends 2-2. Goals by Rodman and Bethune. Third goal was own goal by Tara McKeown.
Spirit dominant. 21 shots to 9. 10 on goal to 1. 57% possession. 9 corners to 4. Need to finish more shots.
