DC takes on NE, Goalkeeper Stories, and a BIG Saturday: Wednesday Freedom Kicks
Heya, second shot at Freedom Kicks, enjoy the spoils of the last two days!
Three straight draws from NE. Two stoppable forces! DC host an historic rival at Buzzard Point (generically Audi Field) at 7:30 PM tonight. Vamos United!!!

A fun story involving our staggeringly heroic backup goalkeeper, the open cup, and beef jerky.
Joon talks moving from South Korea, and the mental pressures of playing, and overcoming homesickness. Also, loves the food diversity of the area, and is trying to pick up some English. (BTW, this video strengthens my suspicion he’d prefer to be called Joon instead of Kim).
DC United fan legend Jason Anderson writes about the NWSL, including the Spirit’s progress.
Pretty self explanatory for the above, but congrats to Sylla for the callup, and to the Spirit for having some real talent in reserve.
A real who’s who of players that probably declined the Gold Cup. Snark, but worth a review of American talent in Europe.
Pretty cool accomplishments, including by starter Emily Fox and prospect Jenna Nighswonger who can be seen holding up a certain Women’s Champions League trophy!

Reminder that this Saturday, The USWNT faces off against China at 5:30 PM, and will face Jamaica Tuesday, June 3rd.
Speaking of Saturday, it’s a big one.
Finally, Man United’s beleaguered coach claims that all that Champions League money and recruitment incentive isn’t necessary. Sure, Jan.
That’s what I’ve got, have a great sporting day! Vamos United!!!

I’d also be remiss not to mention it, but there’s a tragic story from Liverpool’s parade celebration wherein it sounds like a driver under the influence of drugs tailgated an ambulance through a roadblock and slammed into the parade. Dozens injured, no instances of death as of now. Details still coming in, but keep Liverpool fans in your thoughts today.
On a brighter note, a few days ago, Becky Sauerbrunn of incredible USWNT pedigree, now retired from soccer and working in broadcasting, is pregnant. Clearly decided to wait till her playing days were over to start this phase, and seems delighted to begin it. Congrats to Becky and her partner, Zola.

Suarez founded a team in Uruguay and has brought Messi along for the ride.
Opened up the article to make sure that Messi and Suarez weren’t Irish Goodbyeing Inter Miami to go play in Uruguay, which would have been the funniest sports development ever
MLS would simply grant Miami “compassionate discovery rights” and transfer the whole team, citing “culture familiarity” as a “core value” in this one-time MLS exception.
This dropped late last night:
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/45351454/st-louis-city-fires-mellberg-critchley-named-interim-manager
St Louis City has fired their manager.
Meanwhile, their old manager is leading the Eastern Conference first place Philadelphia Union.
Well, they aren’t looking like the snazziest landing spot for a coach, but cutting your losses with someone who seems to be a really bad fit deserves some credit?
Alex Bono makes his return to DC tonight.
Hopefully he gets some run tonight, but just taking a moment to reflect on the fact that – with about a month left on his loan – Fidel Barajas has gotten 24 minutes of MLS playing time across three game.
He didn’t even make the bench on Saturday night. I actually thought he looked bright in those few minutes he’s played, but I also liked what I saw from Zouhir. Neither rated high enough to start.
Is the Indonesian Messi still available?
Starting XI: Barraza, Bartlett, Roles, Herrera, Antley, Enow, Servania, Dodson, Peglow, Murrell, Kijimia
Bench: Stroud, Zouhir, Fletcher, Leal, Pirani, Tubbs, Peltola, Farr, Schnegg
Farr replaces Joon as the keeper on the bench.
I keep meaning to put out there in this forum that I more or less have an extra ticket for the rest of the regular season (my dad, who usually shares with me, is across the pond til sometime in October), so if anyone wants to pick up a game here or there, let me know and we can figure out how to coordinate.
Notes from Goff. Kevin Paredes and Donovan Pines are in attendance tonight. Paredes is using the dc training facilities to stay fit while on summer break. Pines is looking for a new club. Maybe there’s a chance he comes back?
Sign him yesterday.
Polster should be off with a straight red for that challenge on Enow. How the hell is that only a red?
Meant how the hell is that only a yellow?
Can’t get it figured out in the final third so far tonight.
Or most nights, TBH. Team’s been largely allergic to shooting the ball for the better part of a decade now
Huh — I missed the first half — had a meeting, and was on Metro during the first half, heading to Audi (not Audit, as autocorrect wants me to write) Field. As DC United were trying to crack the Revs defense, they were shooting too much frankly. Everybody was trying to shoot when they had almost zero chance of getting past a defender who had them well covered. Instead of passing or making a move to create shooting lane where none existed, they just kicked towards the goal. Over and over again, shots were being blocked easily by the first defender, because there was no lane to shoot.
It’s not much of a shot, if you are at the edge of the 18 and can’t get it past the guy defending you.
Well shit
0-1 at half. Revs goal in 47th minute. Same old same old.
If there are 5,000 people in attendance, that would be surprising.
rain, poor performing team, and mid-week
As usual, DCU will report tickets sold. I fear for STM numbers in 2026.
I relish the resale buy market
Dan Snyder showed us the way…..
Schnegg for Dodson out of half. Schnegg on the left and Antley moves to the right.
So how many more goal are we giving up? I don’t see us scoring.
Leal for Antley
Stroud for Kijima and Fletcher for Murrell
Pirani for Peglow
PIRANI!!!!
Even before the goal Pirani was looking pretty sporty. Might be time to try him as a starter again
It’s time
