Spirit win, DC United lose, and more: Monday Freedom Kicks
Happy Monday, everyone. To everyone in our community that are moms, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday. We appreciate you.
Also, we are putting out a call for any volunteers would be interested in taking over some of the Freedom Kicks throughout the week. With our increased responsibilities along with life and *gestures at the world* happening, we are in need of some help. Speaking for myself, doing this twice a week has reached an unsustainable point with everything else going on. If you’re interested, please reach out to help keep these going strong and make it where we can have our Freedom Kicks every day!
Now, to the news from the weekend…
The Spirit win a wild one in Chicago, led by Rose Kouassi’s first NWSL goal and another goal by Gift Monday!

Angel City defender King ‘responsive’ after in-game collapse (PSW)
An incredibly scary moment as Savy King collapsed on the field during Angel City’s match against Utah Royals. She is responsive and seems to be doing better, but there are a lot of questions the league needs to face about the restart protocol.
Who are the frontrunners for the USL Championships Awards a quarter through the season? (USL)
Ryan Martin (Coach of the Year) and Abdellatif Aboukoura (Young Player of the Year) make this list of early contenders for end of season awards.

Sergiño Dest is one of the best players in the USMNT player pool. But apparently, he has yet to speak with Mauricio Pochettino about being on the team this summer.
Enjoy the day, everyone.

I’d be willing to join the team, if y’all are willing to work with me.

Well, seems like in his like 30 years involved professionally with the sport, dude still doesn’t know what banter is.
He and Messi are soccer royalty and shouldn’t have to deal with the plebes like this…
More than a little truth to this. Beckham views Miami as a boutique club, and wants it to be a cut above. It doesn’t line up with his vision for the organization to either have this sort of banter come their way nor to just fire back playfully. That’s an arrogance and hubristic seriousness this league does not need.
Also, they call themselves the Loons, David, it’s right there.
Old Glory DC plays a midweek game tomorrow night at the George Mason University Stadium.
The game is at 6 PM tonight at George Mason Stadium at GMU’s Fairfax, VA Campus. Military is free entry tonight. Game is televised on Monumental Network and ESPN+/Hulu. As of right now I’m not seeing anything on the team’s social media platforms about postponement.
Postponed? Even Murrayfield doesn’t get postponed!!!
:^)
Its going to be an absolute mud bath of a game.
Almost no one in the stands. Then again a Tuesday night, a 6PM start, pouring rain, and a different location than normal.
Ah they closed the general admission bleachers due to the weather, so standing or your own camping chair.
In a rain soaked and windy game OGDC comes back from 14-8 at half to win 27-14. NOLA had 2 tries called back on TMO review in the last 10 mins of the match.

Matt Doyle on DCU’s loss:
And that is because everyone else, with a few exceptions – Jacob, Gabriel (when he’s playing) – just can’t bring themselves to take shots. I keep yelling at them to take the shot, take the shot but apparently they can’t hear me.
And Joao…but he’s injured…

Minnesota United’s Rosales is banned 3 matches for violating the non-discrimination policy in the match against Vancouver Whitecaps.

So how badly do we lose tonight against Yankees FC…I mean NYCFC?
They’ve looked decent so far at least. Maybe there’s a chance
Well Benteke is subbed off for injury and there’s no Peglow to play hero….
Yeah… like it’s still possible, but ooooh man is it going to be way more difficult now
Only a question of time before NYCFC scores here. Both Rowles and Enow on yellows. This is gonna be a long night and I can see us going down to 10.
Also is it just me or does this seem like an NYCFC biased commentary crew?
Most of the crews tend to be very NY biased, especially since Apple pulled a lot of their talent from that area
Barraza keeping us in the game.
Barraza, the crossbar, and some imprecise finishing by the Pigeons. 0-0 at the half, but it could just as easily be 6-0.
Our defense is shambolic, and could someone tell me what Enow is good at? This isn’t one of the top leagues in Europe and I don’t expect our players to be multitalented, skilled in many facets of the game. However, I have yet to figure out anything that Enow is good at.
Could’ve been 7-0 now
Barraza is definitely man of the match. He stole 2 pts from his former team and gave us a pt.
Jackson Hopkins is alive!
The Pigeons had an xG of 2.4 while The Black and Red had an xG of only 0.5….
Benny Ball at its finest!
