DC Power FC steps onto the pitch at Audi Field this afternoon in their spring home opener to take on Lexington SC. DC Power is coming off a 3-3 draw at Carolina Ascent two weeks ago, but they have a newfound excitement entering their first match at home since November.

“It’s a different type of excitement…now we’re excited to show what we can do,” captain Claire Constant said in Friday’s press availability. The team has been very clear that they hope to show the fans attending the match or watching from home that they’re a much improved team than the one that was still coming together during the fall portion of the USL Super League season. The moving parts continue, as the club announced the signing of Philippines National Team midfielder and Fairfax native Carleigh Frilles on Saturday.

However, Constant also said the fans should look for one much improved aspect of the team when they take the field today: “Cohesion.” Both Constant and interim head coach Phil Nana have said that the team has worked a lot on building cohesion on the field and they hope that will generate scoring chances. “To score 3 goals [against Carolina] gets that belief ramped up,” Nana said. They want to continue to capitalize on scoring chances and generate some more. They only had 3 total shots against Carolina, something that will need to improve if they want the scoring chances to continue.

In the end, they want to defend their home field, and Nana said the theme of the week was Pride. “There’s lot of pride in defending our goal,” Nana proclaimed. “Pride in not conceding goals and having clean sheets, pride in defending our home, and Audi Field is our home…We also want to give something to the fans, get three points for the fans, [and] have them come watch a good game of soccer and an exciting game of soccer.” They will need a win to gain some ground in the USL Super League standings.
