Loudoun United return 16 to roster as 2025 season unveiled

Thursday saw the release of Loudoun United’s 2025 season schedule and take it away socials:

For quick deciphering, bold games are home while not are on the road. Of note are the 4 games in red, where Loudoun participates in the USL Jagermeister Cup. Where last year’s inaugural saw USL League One sides compete against one another, this year’s sees those sides compete against USL Championship teams. Loudoun’s Group play includes games with Louisville City, North Carolina FC, Charlotte (where current DC coach Troy Lesesne began his pro coaching career) and Lexington SC, newly upcoming from League One. So 4 games (and more?) in that Cup, 30 in regular season, and at least a couple in Open Cup.

As of this writing, Loudoun has 16 players under contract for 2025, up from 12 at roughly the same time last year. Those players include Zach Ryan, Wesley Leggett, Tommy McCabe and Hugo Fauroux. While it was a minor surprise to see midfielder Kalil ElMedkhar leave (and promptly sign for FC Tulsa), ElMedkhar started in only eight games in 2025, appearing in 22 overall, and 861 minutes total, good for 15th on the team. The 14 players above ElMedkhar all were retained for 2025, and a 15th was acquired in-season (Isaiah Johnston). Loudoun had eight players all make more starts than ElMedkhar had appearances. Granted, ElMedkhar was dealing with a rib injury for a portion of the season, but the gist of retaining players who can stay healthy and make an impact remains.

What also remains is that while the core is larger and tightly knit, some improvements are to be made if Loudoun hopes to make their first postseason appearance in the USL. With Director of Soccer Oliver Gage working as Loudoun’s Director of Soccer, his first offseason with this title should be interesting from a Loudoun fan’s perspective.
