USMNT vs. Jamaica, 2024 Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals: Match thread
The United States Men’s National Team face Jamaica once again tonight in the second leg of the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals. The US won the first match of this series in Kingston 1-0 last week on a 5th-minute goal by Ricardo Pepi. A win or tie tonight will send the US on to the semifinal round.
The somewhat late publication of this match thread means we already have starting lineups. What do you think of the selections? Will Mauricio Pochettino’s U.S. impress more than they did last week? Chat about it here!
That game also means that the Reggae Boyz will be playing without Mason Holgate, who earned a red card and will be suspended tonight.

It’s a US Soccer game, you know I’m here. Who’s with me?!
Thanks, Annie, for the thread!
I’ll be watching some of the game. Gotta see if we can spot Donald!
It will be interesting to see Tim Weah from the left. I’m pretty much of the opinion that he’s much better driving the right wing, here’s his chance to prove me wrong.
Tessmann gets a second chance, and he’s gonna have his work cut out when McKennie goes forward, as he so often does. If he can hang on a faster field against one of the fastest teams in the world, he’ll shut up my past criticisms. As of now, it’s a worry
Weah off the post in the fourth minute! Dang
Nice work on that goal and assist!
Berhalter shaking his head about them not doing it “the right way”
Pulisic with the chip to the corner off a fast and sweeping play
This ref is a fan of Jamaica’s “physicality”
Weah holds up, cuts inside, woeful through ball pass looking for Pepi
Gonna have to see it that second is an own goal, but it’s a second!
Yep, total own goal. Tessmann with a surprising step over dummy
Man, they heard my faint praise of the performance on Thursday and took it to heart.
Hey, did you see Hal Hershfelt is getting called in?
Pepi dials in a third! Could have let in Pulisic, but Pepi hungers
Wow, almost a true giveaway by McKenzie, Ream cleans up the sloppy
Dang, absolutely pouring now in the stadium
Jamaica pulls one back.
Yep. It’s a good finish. You can argue that we should have done better, but we are playing against 11 players, and Gray is at least Aaronson quality. Let’s just see it out
Wow. Pulisic gets decked putting it out wide, Musah crosses it one time, and Weah slam dunks it in the far corner with a wonderful lash.
Started with a nice interception from Jedi in his more central role
Think it’s time to sub some key players
Holy moly, Weah feeling it now- tests Blake at the near post from about 40 yards, looked like
Its raining and wet field worth a shot. I still remember that NDL goal from range in a rain soaked game against Philly years ago now.
I mean, wet field helps, but the accuracy to find that bottom corner was impressive. Blake was positioned well, needed all his ability to make that a corner
Thanks for the (re) memories!
Jamaica pull another one back and its Gray with a brace. Turner saves the first shot and gives up the rebound that Gray just smashes into the net. That was bad transition defense.
Conditions making it transitional, fast, and sloppy.
Jamaica: “Finally!”
Oof, Jamaica with a second. Scally a little too nonchalant with his covering duties
Turner with another save. The US can’t took their foot off the gas like they are doing.
Think it’s more about putting your foot on the ball and controlling tempo and possession a lot more.
When you have a decent lead, and the momentum and conditions change, gotta find ways to manage minutes and danger
Jamaica channeling their inner DCU with balls over the top except instead of going to a Benteke like player they are just using their speed advantage.
Vazquez with a great chance in alone but puts it wide.
Vazquez gets a wide open chance, does nothing to raise my opinion of him
Vazquez with another golden opportunity that he puts it wide, but he ends up being offside.
Vazquez both offside and well wide. What CAN this guy do?
He’s not been good since he left Cincy.
I just don’t know if he was ever that good. I heard rumblings about his talent, but I’ve never seen the evidence that he’s at this level
Aaronson and Zenejas do well to get it upfield and out for a US corner to end the game
Without the sloppy second half conditions, it would have been more of a rout.
I agree fully.
