Rounding out their series of three games in one week, the U.S. Women’s National Team face Argentina tonight in Louisville. Argentina are 33rd in FIFA’s women’s rankings and last played in a pair of friendlies against Uruguay in July.
Once again, coach Emma Hayes is expected to rotate her starting XI, promising before the match that no player with a club game on Friday will play today. (The exception is Rose Lavelle, who will be celebrated for her 100th cap.) This opens up an opportunity for Washington Spirit rookie Hal Hershfelt, who could be tapped to replace Sam Coffey in the defensive midfield spot.

Annie, these game threads are a great addition. I know they’re additional work for a “highly paid staff” (hah!). But to you and Sarah, let me just say that they’re a great service that is much appreciated.
The US has been better than Argentina all night and the 2-0 scoreline at half shows that.
The U-17s are tied 0-0 with North Korea at half in the semifinal. North Korea has only conceded one goal all tournament and is showing why. The US hasn’t gotten many looks at goal. North Korea has more shots and is attacking primarily down their left wing/US right. And they contest right on the border of the US defensive third and the middle third of the field. Their press has kept the U-17s from getting past midfield for the most part. There was a questionable pk call against the US in the first 10 mins that was overturned on coach’s challenge. This is gonna be a tight one and I think whoever scores first will win.
Damn NK with a rocket from the top of the 18. It was a cleared cross that didn’t go far. The US now has to push.

The Senior USWNT is up 3-0 against Argentina. The first and third goals from Naomi Girma (her first 2 ever professional goals). The second US goal came off an own goal on a corner kick.
The US U-17 WNT launched another coach’s challenge on another potential PK this time against NK. On review the on field decision of no PK was upheld. Its now the 85′ and not looking good.
