DC Power win first match, USMNT win, and more: Indigenous Peoples’ Day Freedom Kicks
Happy Monday, everyone. In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue, and discovered…that indigenous people had already discovered America. So, whether you call it Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day, take some time to recall the history of how our country came to be. Now, to the news from the weekend, as I travel home:
Post-Match Recap: Power FC Wins First Game in Club History Against Brooklyn FC (DC Power)

2024 October USMNT Friendlies – USA 2-0 Panama: A good start to the Pochettino era (SSFC)
The USMNT got a win in Mauricio Pochettino’s first match on the sidelines as head coach. Yunus Musah scored early in the second half, while Ricardo Pepi sealed it in second half stoppage time with a goal. They will now be without several players like Christian Pulisic, who are returning home to their clubs ahead of the Mexico match.
It was the Makenna Morris show at Audi Field yesterday as the Washington Spirit destroyed Racing Louisville 4-1!
Nigeria is supposed to play Libya today, but they have been stuck in a Libyan airport for over 12 hours without access to food or water. It’s all an effort to play mind games, and it might work as Nigeria said it will forfeit the match.
Neymar could return from injury next week (ESPN)
Neymar’s been out for a year due to an ACL injury, but that time on the sidelines could be close to an end. Neymar could return to the Al Hilal lineup next week.
There’s a course simply called The French Course that is revolutionizing the way we teach coaches how to succeed in the game. This article gives us a closer look at the teaching method.
Let’s have a good week!

I don’t have an Athletic subscription, but doesn’t this sound like criminal conspiracy by the Libyans?
I’m sorta fascinated by the McKennie development. I assumed that him not featuring in the Panama game meant he would be running the show against Mexico, not so!
Leaves me to question whether Pochettino likes the sort of player he is. I don’t doubt that his talent is evident, but positional discipline has never been his thing- he’s going to roam where he wants to generate play, and Gregg let him. Maybe Poch isn’t enamored of his vibes shuttler proclivities, and that’s why he’s not playing?
This is speculation, but something’s gonna come out
The US Soccer statement said that the departing players (sans Pulisic) have minor injuries and will return to their clubs for treatment.
Ok, I’ll drop that theory
Matti Peltola played 90 minutes at LCB against England for Finland. The Finns lost 3-1. Players like Robin Lod and Teemu Pukki started on the bench for Finland.
Boris Enow played the second half for Cameroon against Kenya, and ended up scoring the only goal of the match. It was a very nice long range effort. He also nearly scored a similar goal against New England, so he might well be feeling confident about his range right now. He could also very well be United’s best long range threat.
Congrats to Boris, and hopefully we can see him net a similar banger against Charlotte.
