There is so much going on today, so let’s get to it!

Arsenal FC will head to the District to play the MLS All-Star squad on July 19, 2023 at Audi Field. Wayne Rooney will serve as the All-Stars’ coach for the match. On July 18, the MLS All-Stars will face Arsenal in the 2023 MLS All-Star Skills Challenge where they will test their mettle and have some fun before the match.

D.C. United homegrown legend, Bill Hamid, signed with USL side Memphis 901 FC yesterday. He is one of the most decorated players to ever sign with the USL. Congratulations to Bill and Memphis 901 FC!

For all the Hamid fans in the District, his new kit is available in the Memphis 901 FC shop for pre-order!

In case you were completely offline yesterday, the cast of Ted Lasso took over the District! Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Toheeb Jimoh, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt made an appearance at the White House to discuss the importance of mental health.

Jason Sudeikis was also spotted over at Audi Field!

Jason Sudeikis also met with Danita Johnson, D.C. United’s president of business operations.

Yes. WE BELIEVE!

Lewis O’Brien and D.C. United made it official. O’Brien will be on loan from English Premier League side Nottingham Forest pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Wayne Rooney said, “Lewis has been one of the best players in the Championship over the last few seasons. He reads the game well and creates goal scoring opportunities. Bringing him in on loan from Nottingham Forest was a great bit of business for us and he will be a brilliant addition to our midfield.”

Welcome to the Black-and-Red!

Finally, the latest episode of the Hey Spirits podcast is out now. Go listen and make your day better!

Good stuff. It will be interesting to see how Rooney uses O’Brien–in what role.

Also, it was great to see the Ted Lasso crew at the WH. I particularly liked his ad-lib about “greener pastures” and turning the press conference over to the Press Secretary (wearing green).

Boy, I bet the cast of Ted Lasso got stunned by that reporter going off on the press secretary. That was over the top. That was not the time and place for it (is it ever?). Well, the topic was mental health, wasn’t it….?

Congrats to Bill Hamid. He looks truly happy in that photo, and he looks to be in very good company.

Memphis landed one of the most underrated keepers/great players that have graced MLS. At his best I always counted on him for essentially a goal a game in our favor. At his worst, I still loved him in goal. Even if he never is as good as he once was, Memphis is extremely lucky to have him.

In almost 90% of non-Hamid DCU games that I have seen in the last several years, I go “that would have been a save by Bill” or “Bill would have been able to block that one”, I do that at least once a game. Maybe we’ll get lucky at some point and land someone that comes close to him, maybe. Best of luck to Bill, hope he shows everyone what he’s capable of.

Yep every single game.
