On January 12th the Washington Spirit drafted six players. Lyza Bosselmann, a former Gonzaga Bulldog, was one of those players.

Lyza Bosselmann, an Arizona native and former goalkeeper for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Bosselmann, is the second all-time leader in shutouts at Gonzaga, with a total of 21, as well as holding the eighth most career saves with a total of 182. As she finished her collegiate playing career, during the 2022-23 season she only allowed 13 goals, with as many as 200 shots faced.

The newly drafted Washington Spirit and 28th overall pick, Lyza Bosselmann in her own words:

The Draft Night Experience:

On draft night Bosselmann was, as you can imagine, excited. When asked what made her decide to enter the draft she spoke about dreaming of a chance like this.

I just remember being excited. It was a pretty big moment, but I just remember being excited that I was drafted. I’ve always dreamed of being a pro soccer player, so entering the draft just seemed like my chance to make that dream come true.

Do you have any goals for yourself in your first pro season?:

My goals for my first professional season are to learn and develop as much as possible. And, to have fun and enjoy every moment of it too.

What are you looking forward to about playing with the Spirit?:

Playing for the Washington Spirit is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more excited to join a team that values their players and staff like Spirit does.

Is there a particular player or staff member you’re excited to work with?:

I’m excited to play with the entire team. I feel especially lucky to train and play alongside both Aubrey & Barnie.

How would you describe your style of play?:

I would describe myself as a shot stopper.

What can Spirit fans expect to see from you?:

Spirit fans should expect to see me as a player who is eager to learn & grow, who is committed to the club and the greater success of this team.

How do you usually spend your off-time?:

In her downtime, Bosselmann usually catches up on a show or hangs out with her friends. She mentioned how excited she was to be exploring Washington D.C., saying “I’m just looking forward to being there in D.C., and seeing all the fans.”
