DC United @ Atlanta United: Preview, time, and how to watch

DC United is back on the road tonight as they take on Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. DC United is coming off a road win last weekend against Chicago, while Atlanta is also building from a win at home against Philadelphia.

DC United head coach René Weiler is tired of the road games. He would like to be at home. But he knows the players are mentally prepared to get it done on the road. “I would like to have a home game. It’s easier to prepare a home game,” Weiler said during media availability this week. “And we have now, for the fourth time in row, an away game. We have to do this road trip. It’s more comfortable for Atlanta to have their third game in row at home, but it is how it is and we have to put in a huge amount of effort to get anything out [of it].”

One question that has popped up this past week is the injury status of Louis Munteanu, who sat out last week’s win with a leg injury. There were numerous rumors that hinted that Munteanu’s injury was severe enough to keep him out of the lineup for a while, but Weiler put those rumors to rest.

“Yeah, there are always a lot of rumors, but he’s lightly injured like [Aaron] Herrera. But, both of them are already running and they will be back in the team after the international break.” Because of that, both Munteanu and Herrera will be absent from the team sheet today, along with Gabe Segal and Hakim Karamoko, due to injury.

DC United wants to continue its upward build, and they know they need to score more goals to do that. Tai Baribo has led the team so far in the goalscoring department, but the team knows that others have to step up. If they do, they can put goals on the board, they will be able to keep Atlanta on their heels and hopefully bring home 3 points.

Definitely want Herrera back. At this point, he’d be a better right winger than Stroud, and it might let us move Hopkins around to find the game even more.

Also, only one win in 4 and 3 losses, and Tata is their coach?

Man, do I want to compound that man’s misery tonight. Let’s win this

Less than 6 minutes in, and the commentators are already starting to get passive aggressive about DC not letting Atlanta score at home, I mean, parking in their own end…

Is Lloyd Sam the only former DC player turned commentator that doesn’t HATE us?

I know Atlanta haven’t been in flying form yet this season, but we’re back to good shape and cohesion, pushing the opposition back, facing them down in a midblock and saying “make us.”

I like that, and I think it’s the correct strategy given Atlanta want to burn

It’s largely working too, given that Atlanta have had like 1 actually decent shot and it was right at Johnson

Oh, for sure

Atlanta from the jump settled on an identity of flash and attacking prowess, the fans will be unhappy if they can’t do it at home.

If we can keep our nerve, they’ll lose their patience and open up

Hopkins needs to be careful.

So, according to Dax, DC wants more from United going forward, but also is surprised by the lack of ingenuity by Atlanta.

Gee, it’s almost like those are related in terms of strategy and home/away dynamics… no, it’s the children who are wrong.

We’re already getting the game Weiler wanted.

Im not sure I have seen Peltola drive through a defense like that before.

Its a bummer Finland didn’t make the World Cup. Would have been fun to watch to see what he could do.

He’s an all star. Pure and simple.

I know he’s no longer designated as a DP, but he’s the first example of a central midfield signing that wasn’t a playmaker to be worth that sort of designation.

Others have been signed by MLS, like Matuidi, but they’ve all been marginal gains at best. He’s playing like a stud

Weiler seeing the mutually pathetic xg stats from the first half of play away to Altanta:

Well, dang, the text on the gif didn’t make it somehow? It’s Will from the show Hannibal’s frequent empathy projection quote:

Well that was unfortunate for Hefti to get called for that when he’s just running.

Talonesque #
March 21, 2026 8:54 pm

Find something that gives you as much joy as Dax did when Hefti was called for a foul for running through a trip in his own end. Is only regret is that the silly free kick position didn’t lead to anything

Dax talking about how DC can’t keep up this out of possession discipline, but it sounds like a movie villain’s wishful insistence

Some real urgency as the match closes for Atlanta to get the win… from Dax’s tone, that is

Oof Servania may have hurt himself with that rocket off the crossbar.

Talonesque #

Servania almost did something statistically improbable

Then seems to have gotten immediately injured, possibly due to the universe hastily realigning

We had very few dicey moments, and some really solid ones. We were the ones knocking at the end.

I’ll take it.

From BennieBall to ReneBall. A season of 0-0 or 1-0 would be acceptable.
