DC Power FC @ Tampa Bay Sun: Preview, time, and how to watch

DC Power FC heads back to Florida this weekend to try and get a second straight road victory as they take on defending champions Tampa Bay Sun. Due to a quirky schedule, it’s the first time DC Power will face the Sun this season, and they hope that they can continue their winning ways.

In looking at how they defeat the Sun and bring three points home to DC, midfielder Emily Colton says they’ve been working on utilizing the team’s strengths to take advantage of gaps in the Sun’s defense. “I think we’re just going to try to connect in between their lines,” Colton said earlier this week during press availability. “We’ve seen a little bit on film, [and] we can try to expose them between the lines. And I think we try to do that with every team. But we like to play between the lines. So I think [we’re] really just trying to do that and string passes between their lines to ultimately end up in our final third and then finish it off [with a goal].”

Head coach Omid Namazi was pleased that the team was able to get the win last weekend against Sporting Jacksonville despite altering their travel and training schedule due to the DC weather and with a series of roster changes. When asked about how close they are to integrating everything, Namazi truthfully answered that they were “so far away from the finished product.” But, he’s hoping that the new players can continue to get up to speed quickly before a four week break after this match allows them a chance to reset.

“[We’ve] come back, we’ve added some players. We’re looking at possibly changing our system,” Namazi said. “But then I thought, ‘we have two games which one of them was Jacksonville, and then Tampa, and then we have a little bit of break.’ So…let’s stick to the same way that we were playing. Let’s integrate some of those new players into that system. And then during this time where we have no league games, maybe we can look at some different ways of playing in terms of our system and our game model. It’s going to take some time still. But I feel mentally the players understand now what it takes to win games in this league, and we need to be a hard team to score against.”

DC Power, with a win, has a chance to move above the playoff line in the Gainbridge Super League standings. They’re hoping to come home with that win so they can continue to work on the details as a team before their spring home opener on March 12th.
