DC Power FC sign forward Alyssa Walker

DC Power FC may be in their winter break, but they’re using the time to bolster their roster. Today, the club announced that they have signed forward Alyssa Walker to a contract that will bring her to Audi Field through the 2026-27 season.

Walker was most recently with Carolina Ascent, where it was announced yesterday that she had departed the team. She began her Gainbridge Super League career with Spokane Zephyr, signing with them before the 2024-25 season. However, she tore her ACL in preseason, forcing her to miss the entire season. She returned to action this fall for Carolina Ascent, signing with them in the offseason and appearing in 10 matches during the fall portion of the season and scoring 2 goals. One of those goals came against DC Power, as she scored the game-winner in a 3-2 win for Carolina in Charlotte on October 4th.

Walker’s first goal during the fall slate was an equalizing goal on September 13th, helping Carolina Ascent to a 2-2 draw against Sporting Jacksonville.

The 28-year-old striker played college soccer at the University of Richmond for four years before she finished her college career at the University of Iowa. With Richmond, she scored 19 goals and had 7 assists in 60 appearances (55 starts), early Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors in 2016 and 2nd Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2019. With Iowa, she scored 9 goals in 20 games (19 starts), earning 3rd Team All-Big 10 and United Soccer Coaches North Region 3rd Team honors in 2021. She was also named Iowa’s offensive MVP. Prior to her time in the Gainbridge Super League, she spent time with Swedish side IFK Kalmar, SK Brann (Norway), Portland Thorns, and HB Køge (Denmark).

“We’re excited to welcome Alyssa Walker to DC Power FC ahead of the upcoming Spring schedule,” DC Power sporting director Steven Birnbaum said in a press release. “Walker brings exposure at all levels, including experience with Carolina Ascent FC during the Fall slate of the Gainbridge Super League 2025/26 season. She brings proven success from stints overseas and with the Portland Thorns. We’re confident in her goal-scoring abilities and excited to bring her into the fold as we work towards a championship title.”

DC Power hopes that Walker’s addition will serve as an opportunity for her to provide scoring to complement fellow striker Gianna Gourley. The team hopes to continue to boost scoring to move up the Gainbridge Super League table. Currently, DC Power sits 8th out of 9 teams in the league with 15 points from 14 matches. Still, they sit just 5 points below the playoff line, and Alyssa Walker’s addition will potentially help with scoring production as they push for the playoffs in the spring.
