World Cup Draw results, Inter Miami win MLS Cup, and more: Monday Freedom Kicks
Hey y’all. Feeling a bit under the weather, so this is a late and short Freedom Kicks today. We’ll start with the obvious news from the weekend:
USMNT draw Paraguay, Australia, and UEFA Playoff C winner in 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage (SSFC)
The World Cup Draw was on Friday, and I was in the media center to take in the circus. The big takeaway: the USMNT draw what seems to be a favorable group in Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of UEFA Playoff C between Türkiye, Romania, Slovakia, or Kosovo.
CHAMPIONS! Inter Miami & Lionel Messi win MLS Cup over Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS)
Inter Miami has won MLS Cup, defeating Vancouver to claim their first league title.
DC Power was on the road to Dallas Trinity, but they come home with 0 points after a 2-1 loss.

San Diego Wave win the World Sevens tournament, taking home some extra cheese for their wallets.

Darth Garber’s master plan has come to fruition…….
Even though I think he is more likely to go to Saudi, I wonder who in MLS has Mo Salah’s discovery rights.
I keep grasping at the straw that Weiler coached in Egypt.
I’m still pissed at the NWSL commissioner’s decision to negate the Rodman contract. One insight is that Rodman’s preference is to continue with the Spirit–not jump overseas or go where the biggest contract offer is. Let’s hope this action by Darth Berman isn’t enough to sour that relationship.
I hope things get sorted out with the ‘Caps so they don’t end up moving.
I like the group the US ended up with. No weak sisters (especially if Turkey is the 4th team). All are teams that the US should be expected to win against–even Turkey.
Donald, feel better.
