International Update: How Have D.C. United and Loudoun United Players Done While Away?

The Men’s International Window is half over. D.C. United and Loudoun United have a combined five players on duty across four international rosters. Three players saw the field in the first round of games and acquitted themselves well, scoring two goals. Team results, however, were not entirely reflective of these performances and tended to be on the disappointing end.

Aarron Herrera and Arquímides Ordóñez (Guatemala)

Going into Thursday’s match against Panama, Guatemala sat one point back of both Los Canaleros and Suriname in their group with games. Los Chapines needed to win out to secure an automatic bid for next year’s World Cup. Guatemala, however, fell to Panama 3-2 in their first match of the window. Suriname’s 4-0 rout of El Salvador eliminated any possibility of qualification through the inter-confederation playoff. Despite their strong performance during qualifying, Guatemala will continue to wait for their first World Cup final appearance.

Aaron Herrera started for Guatemala and went the full 90 minutes. He attempted two shots over the course of the match. Arquímides Ordóñez subbed in the 56th minute with Los Chapines facing a 2-0 deficit. Ordonez halved Panama’s lead with a goal 13 minutes later. Three minutes later Guatemala equalized the match. However, shortly after, Panama’s José Fajardo scored ending Guatemala’s World Cup dream.

Kye Rowles (Australia)

Having already qualified for the World Cup, Australia continues its tune up matches. On Friday, they faced Venezuela in Houston. Jesús Ramírez’s 38th minute strike was the difference as Venezuela defeated the Socceroos 1-0. Kye Rowles didn’t make the bench for Australia.

Matti Peltola (Finland)

Peltola was a late addition to Finland’s camp last week. He was suspended for Finland’s Friday match against Malta due to yellow card accumulation. Going into the match the Huuhkajat had a long shot at qualification. A Malta goal in the 82th minute knocked Finland out of contention. Peltola will be available for selection for a friendly against Andorra on Monday.

Upcoming Games

  • 17 November 2025 – vs Andorra – Tampere, Finland – 12 PM Eastern

Jackson Hopkins (US U-21)

With all the discussion of the World Cup, it is sometimes lost that the US will host the Olympics in just over two years. As part of preparations for the tournament, Hopkins was chosen to participate in the U.S. Under-21 Men’s National Team’s November camp, which features friendlies against Denmark’s and Serbia’s U-21 teams. On Friday, Hopkins started for the US U-21’s in their first ever meeting with Denmark. Hopkins started in the midfield for the US and scored the US’s lone goal in the 1-1 draw.

The funny thing about LA being the host city for the 2028 Summer Olympics when it comes to Rugby 7s is that LA and Las Vegas seem to alternate in hosting the USA stop of the HSBC 7s Season. It will host the final stop on the series for the 2025-2026 season. And unfortunately with the reduction from 12 teams to 8 between the season the USA Men were relegated down to the Challenger Series while the Women will be playing this year in the top level SVNS Series.. The stadium for games in LA is Dignity Health Sports Park home of the LA Galaxy.
