Give to the McTavish Family, Transfer Deadline News, and More: Wednesday Freedom Kicks
I’m not much one for intros today. Hope you did some chilling on your Labor Day Monday, but my poll of those I know suggest few did. On we go.
Fundraiser by Emily McTavish : Help Emily’s Journey to Complete Healing
Didn’t want to bury this at the bottom. Emily McTavish, wife of of former DC United player, Devon McTavish, is in the midst of a truly brutal battle against cancer, and has a go fund me for treatment. We all know the story, family with kids is struck by this grave illness, and is in need of financial support. Give if you’re able.
In Loudoun United news, having trouble getting the link here from the website, but INTERESTING NEWS: Loudoun United announces proudly on their website that this week’s TOTW features rising star Arquímides Ordóñez and Head Coach Ryan Martin. The same Ryan Martin who will be let go at the end of the season, and this week it was announced. Never seen that confluence before, for good reason.
Loudoun United New President Aims to Redevelop Segra Field– Loudoun Now
It’s not all ironic travesties at Loudoun, though. The new owners want to do some stuff with the field. Improving the grounds and experience are good things, but maybe don’t fire everyone that raised expectations at the club in the first place?
Rosemonde Kouassi enjoys breakthrough spell for Washington Spirit as NWSL resumes– ESPN
This feature covers African players making an impact in the league, and Kouassi gets top billing for a remarkable surge in form and impact. Gift Monday is mentioned 3rd, with Chawinga in 2nd. Cool!
Reminder that The Spirit take on (the ineptly titled) Vancouver Whitecaps Girls Elite tonight at 7 PM in the second matchday of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup. Paramount+ for streaming.
USMNT’s Sargent on Norwich stay: Best decision for World Cup– ESPN
Sargent insists that continuing to play for Norwich is his best path for the World Cup. You see, his comfort zone that hasn’t remotely prepared him to take his chances lately for the National Team in any of his opportunities lately is… I’m sorry, what was the question?
USMNT’s Yunus Musah joins Atalanta on loan from AC Milan– ESPN
This was announced a bit late in the day after being strongly rumored, but Yunus Musah gets a loan to Atalanta from AC Milan. The dynamic Serie A club known for developing players that aren’t first choice elsewhere into functioning stars has an option to buy.
USWNT star Wilson announces birth of daughter– Pro Soccer Wire
Happy news for Sophia Wilson and husband. I’m sure they feel pretty blessed right now, and I bet the Portland Thorns organization is feeling a bit of internal conflict on the maternity leave.
FC Cincinnati’s Evander fined by MLS Disciplinary Committee– MLS
MLS are fining Evander for simulation, and Idan Toklomati for making an inappropriate gesture. Neither of these players play for Miami.
Goal.com makes the case that the league would be good with Miami being the popular heel of MLS. Yeah, that’s a good substitute for consequences, right? It should be noted the Leagues Cup final was on Sunday, and MLS still hasn’t announced how they’re handling the spitting incident and general lack of self restraint and class Miami showed.
Let this be a lesson to you, kids. Act like a total jerk to the fans and club that supported you, and refuse to honor your contract, get a move to Liverpool. Be genuinely polite and try to convince your club to let you go for a fee, don’t get a move to Liverpool.
If you want a fuller list of moves that happened in Europe on deadline day, here you go:

That’s all I’ve got! One up me in the comments, and have a great sporting day!

Btw, sorry for the late posting. I’m also responsible for tomorrow’s FKs, will try to get that one out earlier.
Oh, and Alex Morgan is on the Call Her Daddy podcast. I haven’t listened to it yet, but should be worth your time.

Will note that the Toklomati fine for an “inappropriate gesture” was actually for him doing the “fake pulling my hamstring and then start to twerk” celebration that Lo’eau Labonta did in the NWSL a couple of years ago. I don’t think any disciplinary actions came from the original, so a bit odd to see one here. Maybe he should have just spit on the goalie or something instead. That seems to be acceptable these days
That’s absolutely bizarre. Did a man twerking give them the ick, and did that merit a fine?
This league fucking sucks, and I say that as someone who’s rooted for an original franchise since I was 8.
FWIW, the team seems to be backing their player on the matter. They actually posted a meme about it on Twitter, indicating that they’re encouraging him to “Twerk even harder now.” The Charlotte socials team is generally really good, so not surprised to see them lean into it
Posted this on yesterday’s FKs earlier as today’s weren’t out yet.

The day before the NFL season opens tomorrow the biggest illegal sports streaming platform is taken down by law enforcement.
Thanks for sharing the McTavish GoFundMe. I was going to share it in the comments if not.
I don’t really think Sargent is wrong to stay at Norwich. He’s doing well, likes the club, and moving somewhere else carries the very real risk of him failing to get regular minutes. It’s a good, competitive league. The issue isn’t where he’s making his living, but how he performs with the US. He’s not the only one either. There are a lot of question marks all over the field, and Pochettino doesn’t really have time to get a good enough look at everyone unfortunately.
Which is why I’m sort of agreeing with Tim Howard on the recent GK call-ups. Freese earned his spot. Celentano, sure, he’s the guy at one of the top teams in MLS. Klinsmann is a real head scratcher. Is it because he wants his other top choices getting regular minutes and doesn’t really care who the 3rd choice is?
Gabriel Pirani now has the second most goals by a Brazilian player in DC United history, trailing only Luciano Emilio. Kind of weirdly, Joao Peglow is fifth on that list.
Thanks for sharing our GoFundme – we’re incredibly grateful and in awe of all the support.
J Sam Jones moves DCU up to 29th in his power rankings on the league site after the 2-1 victory over Yankees FC.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/power-rankings-streaking-charlotte-fc-surge-into-top-five
lol, what?!
Like, I know it’s a blurb, but a club on the bottom finding some competency under a new manager is not ruining it for everyone else. That’s a garbage framing.
