MLS Fantasy Focus: Petar the Great
This round the rich got richer, as our overall leader, Nouhou Big Summer Blowout, scored a truckload of points — 211 to be exact. This extended their overall lead at the top of the table to 61 points.
Positional Leaders
Goalkeepers
The duo of Roman Celentano (CIN, $7.1) and Joe Willis (NSH, $9.3), each of whom had two clean sheets, shared the positional lead with 15 points. Sean Johnson (TOR, $7.6) was third with one clean sheet and 10 points. For United it was Luis Barraza ($5.9) scored 5 points.
Defenders
A pair of 18 point players shared the lead among defenders, as Jack Elliott (CHI, $6.2) paired a goal with a clean sheet, and Luca Orellano (CIN, $10.3) put together a clean sheet, goal, and assist. Walker Zimmerman (NSH, $8.4) kept two clean sheets to finish third with 17 points. The D.C. defenders were Kye Rowles ($5.6) with 6 points, Garrison Tubbs ($4.2) and Derek Dodson ($4.0) with 3, Lucas Bartlett ($5.5) and Matti Peltola ($4.0) with 2, David Schnegg ($5.1) with 1, and Aaron Herrera ($5.5) with the ignominy of -2 points.
Midfielders
Seattle’s Albert Rusnak ($13.6) contributed two goals and two assists on the way to 29 points, leading the position. Meanwhile both Pep Biel (CLT, $13.8), with three goals and an assist, and Emil Forsberg (NYR, $11.3), with two goals and two assists, tied for second with 25 points. The DCU midfield was led by Gabriel Pirani ($8.2) with 10 points, followed by Randall Leal ($4.0) with 6, Joao Peglow ($7.4) and Brandon Servania ($4.7) with 5, Boris Enow ($4.1) with 3, Hosei Kijima ($4.0) with 2, and the trio of Jared Stroud ($4.0), Rida Zouhir ($4.0), and Jackson Hopkins ($4.0) with 1.
Forwards
Petar Musa (DAL, $10.7) scored four goals and added an assist on the way to 31 points, leading the forwards and all scorers ahead of Lionel Messi (MIA, $15.3) who scored 24 points on the strength of two goals and an assist. Denis Bouanga (LA, $13.0) rounded out the top three with three goals and 21 points. The D.C. scorers were Christian Benteke ($9.7) with 7 points and Dominique Badji ($4.0) with 3.
Looking Ahead
It’s the last round before a week and a half-long MLS break for Leagues Cup, and everyone plays once with an unusual number (6) of Friday night games. I like Hugo Lloris (LA, $7.4) in goal at home against Portland and Andy Najar (NSH, $10.1) in defense vs. San Diego. Albert Rusnak still looks strong in the midfield vs. Atlanta, and I like Hugo Cuypers (CHI, $11.8) at forward at the Red Bulls.
