MLS Fantasy Focus: Messi-ah

It was fun while it lasted. My two-round run at the top of the league is over, as Nouhou Big Summer Blowout‘s 193 points was the league high for the round and put them back atop the league with a 28-point margin.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
LAFC’s Hugo Lloris ($6.9) posted two clean sheets on the way to 14 points, leading the position. Brad Stuver (ATX, $9.0) had a clean sheet and 10 points, while Aljaz Ivacic ($8.0) did the same for 9 points. D.C.’s Luiz Barraza ($6.1) scored 2 points.

Defenders
The top three defenders were all LAFC defenders with two clean sheets — Aaron Long ($8.2) with 19 points, and both Ryan Hollingshead ($6.3) and Eddie Segura ($8.8) with 18. For DCU it was Kye Rowles ($5.5) with 2 points, and each of Aaron Herrera ($5.9), David Schnegg ($5.3), and Lucas Bartlett ($5.4) with 1.

Midfielders
Djordje Mihailovic’s (COL, $13.5) three assists helped him to 18 points, leading the midfielders. Just behind him was Marcel Hartel (STL, $10.5) with two goals and 17 points and Carles Gil (NE, $15.0) with a goal and 15 points. The United midfield was led by Gabriel Pirani ($7.7) with 10 points followed by Joao Peglow ($7.6) with 6, Boris Enow ($4.1) with 3, and both Hosei Kijima ($4.1) and Randall Leal ($4.0) with 1.

Forwards
For the second straight round, Lionel Messi (MIA, $14.8) led the forwards and all scorers, this time with 28 points on four goals. Meanwhile, Denis Bouanga (LA, $12.5) tallied 25 points on two goals and an assist, and his teammate, Nathan Ordaz ($6.6), scored 17 points on two goals. For D.C. it was Christian Benteke ($9.7) and Dominique Badji ($4.0) with 1 point each.

Looking Ahead
It’s another two-game round bonanza, as everyone plays twice except for St. Louis and Colorado. I like Kristjian Kahlina (CLT, $6.8) in goal vs. DCU and at Atlanta, and Mohamed Farsi (CLB, $8.7) in defense at Nashville and vs. DCU. Albert Rusnak (SEA, $13.0) looks strong in midfield vs. Colorado and San Jose, and keep Denis Bouanga in at Minnesota and vs. the Galaxy.

Blasian has followed soccer since the mid-90s, and D.C. United since 1996. Though he now lives in Seoul, South Korea, he follows MLS as closely as he can. He's a half-Korean and an adoptee, things about which he's happy to talk to you if you cross paths with him on Twitter or Instagram at @BlasianSays.
