DC Power hires Omid Namazi as head coach

DC Power FC finally has their coach. Today, the club announced the hire of Omid Namazi as the head coach ahead of the 2025-26 USL Super League season.

Namazi has over two decades of coaching experience across a range of teams and leagues. He has head coaching stints with the Philadelphia Kixx, San Diego Spirit, Cleveland Force, St. Louis Steamers, New Jersey Ironmen, Chicago Red Stars, U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team, Zob Ahan Esfahan FC, FC Helsingør, and most recently with Hartford Athletic. He also has been an assistant coach for the Iran Men’s National Team as well as the U.S. Women’s National Team and the Houston Dynamo, among others. Namazi becomes the head coach after Phil Nana finished out the 2024-25 season as DC Power’s interim head coach after they let go of Fred Brillant before Thanksgiving.

“I would like to extend my thanks to Jason Levien, Jordan Stuart and Steven Birnbaum for placing their confidence in me to steer DC Power Football Club in its second season,” Omid Namazi said in a statement released by the team. “I am excited to get started and fully committed to building a championship-caliber club. I’m confident in the club’s potential and focused on uplifting and empowering future generations of women in sports.”

”We are thrilled to welcome head coach Omid Namazi to DC Power Football Club ahead of the 2025/26 season,” said DC Power club president Jordan Stuart in a statement. “Namazi brings a vast amount of coaching experience from several professional clubs and at the international level, with a proven track record of success. He’s also well-versed in the area’s youth soccer landscape from his recent role with McLean Youth Soccer as he relocated to the area, something we hope to leverage as we build our academy presence and further develop young talents in the area. We are confident in Namazi’s abilities to make a positive impact on and off the pitch and successfully lead Power FC as we continue to grow a top-tier organization.”

DC Power began preseason this week for the 2025-26 season, which kicks off on August 23rd.

Donald Wine has been a soccer fan since he first kicked a ball as a kid. He moved to DC in 2007 and quickly joined the soccer scene, helping to establish the DC chapter of the American Outlaws and serving as one of the capos and drummers for over a decade. He is currently the manager of Stars & Stripes FC, but this community is where he got his start, and he continues to contribute to anything DC soccer related for this site because he enjoys it so much.
