MLS Fantasy Focus: Blessi This Messi

This round the leader was Lake Ridge SC, with a robust total of 106 points. At the top of the overall table, it’s still ya boy, Seoul Train, though my lead is down to 21 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
Five players tied for the positional lead on 7 points, with Joe Willis (NSH, $8.6), Luis Barraza (DCU, $5.7), Brad Guzan (ATL, $5.1), and Novak Micovic (LAG, $5.9) each keeping a clean sheet, and John Pulskamp (SKC, $7.0) somehow assisting a goal.

Defenders
Mitja Ilenic (NY, $6.6) set the pace for the defenders with 13 points on a goal and an assist. Trailing him were Ian Smith (POR, $4.0), with a goal and 10 points, and Maya Yoshida (LAG, $6.4), with a clean sheet and 9 points. For DCU it was Lucas Bartlett ($5.0) and Matti Peltola ($4.0) with 8 points, Conner Antley ($5.1) and Kye Rowles ($5.0) with 7, David Schnegg ($5.1) with 6, and Derek Dodson ($4.0) with 1.

Midfielders
The Galaxy’s Joseph Paintsil ($7.5) led the midfielders with 16 points on a brace, ahead of Marcel Hartel (STL, $10.0), whose 14 points came on the strength of two assists. Evander (CIN, $14.2) was third with a goal, an assist, and 12 points. The D.C. midfielders were Joao Peglow ($7.3), Brandon Servania ($5.0), and Boris Enow ($4.0) with 3 points each, and Hosei Kijima ($4.4), Randall Leal ($4.0), and Jackson Hopkins ($4.0) with 1.

Forwards
Lionel Messi (MIA, $14.3) posted a brace and an assist on the way to 19 points, leading the forwards and all players. Behind him were Ezequiel Ponce (HOU, $8.1), with two goals and 14 points, and Milan Iloski (SD, $8.5), with a goal and 11 points. For United it was Christian Benteke ($10.1) with 3 points and Dominique Badji ($4.0) with 1.

Looking Ahead
New England, Miami, LAFC, and Colorado all play twice and everyone else plays once this round. I like Pedro Gallese (ORL, $8.2) in goal vs. Montreal and Tristan Blackmon (VAN, $9.7) and his defense to get right at Colorado. Carles Gil (NE, $14.5) looks good in midfield vs. Miami and Austin, and Denis Bouanga (LA, $12.0) is your forward vs. Colorado and Dallas.

Blasian has followed soccer since the mid-90s, and D.C. United since 1996. Though he now lives in Seoul, South Korea, he follows MLS as closely as he can. He's a half-Korean and an adoptee, things about which he's happy to talk to you if you cross paths with him on Twitter or Instagram at @BlasianSays.

This is my team. The bench isn’t shown, but I got 14 pts off Marcel Hartel on my bench to make up for Feingold’s DNP.
