MLS Fantasy Focus: Santa Klauss

The leader this round was Carolina Core FC with a total of 89 points. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Nouhou Big Summer Blowout still has the overall lead, but it’s down to just two points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
The top three goalkeepers all kept a clean sheet and scored 8 points — Rafael Cabral (RSL, $8.0), Joe Willis (NSH, $7.6), and Tomas Romero (NYC, $5.5). D.C.’s Luis Barraza ($5.5) scored 2 points.

Defenders
A pair of players led the defenders with 11 points, as Justin Haak (NY, $9.1) and Alexandros Katranis (RSL, $5.6) both tallied a clean sheet and an assist. Jalen Neal (MTL, $5.7) was third with a goal and 10 points. For DCU, it was Lucas Bartlett ($4.6) and Kye Rowles ($4.3) with 2 points, followed by the trio of David Schnegg ($4.7), Conner Antley ($5.0), and Garrison Tubbs ($4.5) with 1 each.

Midfielders
The duo of Hannes Wolf (NY, $9.8) and Anders Dreyer (SD, $13.7) posted matching scores of 17 points on two goals and an assist each, leading the midfielders. Trailing was Luciano Acosta (DAL, $8.1) who scored two goals and 14 points. The United midfield featured Gabriel Pirani ($7.5), Brandon Servania ($4.8), and Randall Leal ($4.1) with 3 points, followed by Boris Enow ($4.0) with 2, and both Hosei Kijima ($4.8) and Jared Stroud ($4.4) with 1.

Forwards
Joao Klauss (STL, $7.2) scored a hat trick on the way to 19 points, leading the forwards and all players. Meanwhile, Gabriel Pec (LAG, $7.9) scored 16 points on the strength of a brace, and Prince Owusu (MTL, $8.2) scored 11 on the same. The scoring D.C. players were Dominique Badji ($4.0) with 2 points and Jacob Murrell ($4.0) with 1.

Looking Ahead
Fantasy Focus is taking a two-week break, as there are no MLS matches scheduled until Wednesday, June 25th. When the league returns, there will be a bunch of teams playing two games. The only teams playing once are RSL, NY, Portland, Austin, Seattle, DCU, Miami, and LAFC. Everyone else plays twice. With that in mind, I like Aljaz Ivacic (NE, $8.8) in goal vs. Nashville and Colorado, and David Brekalo (ORL, $9.4) in defense at St. Louis and vs. Cincinnati. Evander (CIN, $13.2) is a must in midfield at Montreal and Orlando, and Sam Surridge (NSH, $12.0) looks good at forward at New England and D.C.

See you in two weeks!
