MLS Fantasy Focus: Booyahnga

Your boy, Seoul Train, was back atop the league again this round with a total of 102 points. At the top overall we still have Nouhou Big Summer Blowout, whose lead is now down to 21 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
Austin’s Brad Stuver ($9.0) kept a clean sheet on the way to 8 points, just ahead of Yohei Takaoka (VAN, $9.2), who did the same for 7 points. James Pantemis (POR, $8.4) was third with just 4 points.

Defenders
Mikkel Dessler (ATX, $6.0) led the defenders with 13 points on a goal and a clean sheet. Trailing him was the 10-point pair of Andrew Gutman (CHI, $7.0) and Eddie Segura (LA, $7.8), both of whom scored a goal. For D.C., Lucas Bartlett ($4.9) scored 1 point as the only defender with positive points, while Conner Antley ($5.3) scored -1 and Derek Dodson ($4.0) scored -2. The less said about this, the better.

Midfielders
Chicago teammates Maren Haile-Selassie ($4.4) and Philip Zinckernagel ($11.4) each paired a goal with an assist for 11 and 10 points, respectively. Portland’s David Ayala ($7.1) was third with a goal and 9 points. For United it was Gabriel Pirani ($7.0) and Brandon Servania ($4.7) with 4 points, Hosei Kijima ($5.0) and Jared Stroud ($4.6) with 3, and the trio of Randall Leal ($4.1), Rida Zouhir ($4.0), and Fidel Barajas ($4.0) with 1.

Forwards
Denis Bouanga (LA, $11.5) scored a goal and added two assists on the way to 18 points, leading the forwards and all players. Trailing him were Tom Barlow (CHI, $4.0), who scored a hat trick and 17 points, and DCU’s Dominique Badji ($4.0) with a goal and 8 points. Jacob Murrell ($4.0) was the only other D.C. scorer with 1 point.

Looking Ahead
It’s the last round before a week and a half break for the Club World Cup, and everyone plays once except for Seattle, Toronto, LAFC, and Miami, who are on bye. I like Roman Burki (STL, $7.2) in goal vs. the Galaxy, and Justen Glad (RSL, $6.2) in defense vs. DCU. Martin Ojeda (ORL, $12.4) looks good in the midfield @ Colorado, and Sam Surridge (NSH, $11.5) is your forward @ Chicago.

Blasian has followed soccer since the mid-90s, and D.C. United since 1996. Though he now lives in Seoul, South Korea, he follows MLS as closely as he can. He's a half-Korean and an adoptee, things about which he's happy to talk to you if you cross paths with him on Twitter or Instagram at @BlasianSays.
