US Open Cup Thread: DC United vs. Charlotte

The good guys host Charlotte at Buzzard Point (generically Audi Field) tonight!

Hard to say what personnel we roll out for this, and I will not be available to update when the lineups and benches are announced, but wanted to make sure there was space to post.

Charlotte have not been in form in the league coming into this fixture, but we all know the Open Cup is nothing if not chaotic. Both teams likely have a decent chance, and game state will likely be king in this match.

Vamos United!!!

Location: Audi Field

Kickoff: 7:30

Available Streaming: Paramount+

Normal order of business restored as Charlotte take the lead. Not sure who looked worse there with half-hearted efforts at defending: Peltola or Rowles?

Hopkins capitalizes nicely on some goalmouth chaos!

Peltola banger from like 30 yards out. Gotta be at this point

Might be interesting to note that DC United are tied 3-3, with three different goal-scorers, each of whom scored for the first time ever in a DC United jersey.

Schnegg scored against Dallas last year.

Thankfully 3 free Charlotte players in the box on a corner comes to nothing.

I have a feeling we’re going to penalties.

I’d been wondering how confident I felt about Kim in goal for penalties, and Lesesne must have similar thoughts.

Joon coming off and Farr coming on. So apparently Farr is better a penalty stopper than Joon?

Joon is too damn small. I know he’s listed as 6’2″ but I don’t believe it. Doesn’t cover enough ground.

Hopkins buries the second one. He went high and beat Bingham even though Bingham guess the right way.

Stroud’s pk is saved by Bingham keeping them in it.

These PKs were atrocious. Only Herrera and Bronico took them well.. But, we win.

Let’s give credit to Lesesne for one of the best coaching decisions of all time — Farr for Joon with one minute to play in second extra time. Saved four out of five. Unbelievable!!!

And I thought that DC United looked as if they knew what they were doing offensively and defensively throughout. Charlotte’s three goals were matter of inches (maybe their third was a bit of a defensive breakdown). But we increasingly look decently coached.
