DC Power FC @ Brooklyn FC: Preview, time, and how to watch
DC Power FC hits the road this evening, traveling to Coney Island to take on Brooklyn FC. DC Power are still in search of their first win of the spring, and they hope to get it on a road trip that produced the club’s first ever win.
DC Power’s first win in club history came in a road match against Brooklyn FC back in October. That match took place at Columbia University’s field in Manhattan. This time, Brooklyn FC’s home of Maimonides Park on Coney Island will be the scene as DC Power hope to bring the same vibes.
They enter the match playing for pride. With the full results last weekend, DC Power joined Lexington SC as the first two teams officially eliminated from playoff contention. With a game in hand on Lexington, the goal now is to try and climb out of the cellar of the newly renamed Gainbridge Super League and perhaps play spoiler to another team in their final games.
“It’s important to take the things we did well, and make sure we keep doing them and implement them into our game,” interim coach Phil Nana said in comments made this week. “We need to learn from the mistakes and move forward.”
In Brooklyn FC, DC faces a team who is fighting for the playoffs. They currently sit in fifth place in the table, tied on points with Fort Lauderdale United FC. This is despite Brooklyn also searching for their first win of the spring. The two teams drew 1-1 when they last faced each other back on March 23rd.
“With Brooklyn, they can be a very dangerous team especially in the flanks with some players they have,” Nana said in Thursday’s media availability. “They have overall great players, creative players on their side that can do a lot and take the game into their hands. For us, it’s big that we understand our spacing, how their key players impact the game and being able to predict and anticipate what they’ll try to exploit.”
Despite the slump, Nana said that the players are still upbeat and confident in each other, and that will help them down the stretch to find the results they desire. “We’re looking for the players to continue their togetherness and keep growing in that,” Nana declared. “When we turn from just players on the team to being a family, that’s the biggest step and we’re heading that way.”
