DC Power FC @ Fort Lauderdale United FC: Preview, time, and how to watch

DC Power FC hit the road desperate for points this evening as they take on Fort Lauderdale United FC. The team is still in search of their first win this spring and hope to finally put together a 90-minute performance that yields a positive result.

Interim head coach Phil Nana believes that despite the poor start to the spring, the team is in high spirits and motivated. “We feel that the team morale is there and that we can go out and get the result we need,” Nana said. “It’s going to come from getting a clean sheet. We can’t let Fort Lauderdale score, they’re capable of netting goals especially after that first one goes in. We need to keep doing what we’re doing but harp on organization, staying focused and putting in the effort.”

The past two matches saw DC Power without several of its main players due to international duty. Claire Constant, Katrina Guillou, Carleigh Frilles, Jennifer Cudjoe and Charlie Estcourt are all back and available this evening for selection. Nana called it “huge” to have those players back with the squad.

One player who has played well for the club since her arrival during the midseason break is Gianna Gourley, who DC Power acquired on loan from Fort Lauderdale United. She returns to face them for the first time, while DC Power will face Jorian Baucom for the first time since she was traded to Fort Lauderdale during the break. Gourley has 3 goals and an assist in a DC Power uniform.

Fort Lauderdale United is a squad that is dangerous. They currently sit just above the playoff line with 32 points and have a dangerous attack. Phil Nana called Fort Lauderdale’s Addie McCain – who has merited serious Player of the Year discussion – and Jasmine Hamid (sister of DC United legend Bill Hamid) “second to none” as an attacking duo in the USL Super League. McCain is tied for the Golden Boot lead with 9 goals, and Hamid is just behind her with 7 goals. Nana said that DC Power has to win the flanks to neutralize the attack of McCain and Hamid and keep them off the scoreboard.

“They’re much improved since the win we claimed against them,” Nana said earlier this week. “They’re coached exceptionally well and always going to be prepared and organized. For us, it’s big that we just focus on us and our game. If we focus on the things that we need to improve upon and stay consistent with the things we do well, the game will take care of itself.”
