DC Power FC @ Dallas Trinity: Preview, time, and how to watch

DC Power FC heads down to the Cotton Bowl to take on Dallas Trinity this evening in midweek USL Super League action. DC Power is seeking its first win of the spring portion of the season as they try to move out of the cellar in the USL Super League standings.

The team is coming off a 1-1 home draw against Brooklyn FC in their last match on March 23rd, but the team is not content with settling for draws. With 15 points from 18 matches, the team knows that they need wins to start moving up the table. “I think we’ve made leaps and bound from where we were at the start of the Spring season but we’re still not where we want to be,” interim head coach Phil Nana said after that match. “I’m happy with where we’re headed but not quite satisfied yet.”

DC Power FC will be without five players, who are away on international duty: Claire Constant (Haiti); Carleigh Frilles and Katrina Guillou (Philippines); Jennifer Cudjoe (Ghana); and Charlie Estcourt (Wales). Those three players will be out for the next two matches and are unavailable for tonight’s match, and Nana said they will rely on some of the academy players to step up. “Our approach to this game is going to be a little bit more defensive than we normally do…also, we’re going to bring in some academy players to help fill in in some of the positions that were missing with the internationals…so yeah, we’re going to ask for the younger players to step up.”

Nana also stated that the team may turn to the counterattack on offense as they seek to manage Gianna Gourley, who has a “slight knock” but is expected to play tonight. Gourley has 2 goals and an assist for DC Power since she was acquired during the midseason break. “It’s just about picking the right moments when to go, and Gianna being in cue when those moments are [present]. We have some cues that we working on to let us know, ‘Okay, this is our moment to spring forward.'”

“It’s most important for us to keep believing in what we’re doing and what we’re trying to achieve,” Nana reaffirmed. “The best way to do that is to get points and win games so staying hungry, motivated and ready to go out and give it our all.”

They take on a Dallas Trinity team that are currently fourth in the USL Super League standings with 30 points. They are coming off a 3-0 defeat to Carolina Ascent last weekend, their first loss in a month. The team has the ability to score a ton of goals, currently leading all teams with 30 goals scored so far this season. Fans will also get to see three players – Tamara Bolt, Deborah Abiodun, and Shadia Nankya – on loan from the Washington Spirit and two players – Amber Brooks and Maya Gordon – who once played for the Spirit. Dallas Trinity and DC Power drew in both of their fall matchups – a 1-1 draw at the Cotton Bowl back in September and a 0-0 draw at Audi Field in October.
