MLS Fantasy Focus: Gorgeous Djordje
The scoring leader this round was Carolina Core FC, amassing 80 points, a total which would have led round 4 by 18 points, but would have been tied for ninth best last round. Despite scoring the sixth fewest points in the round, Nouhou Big Summer Blowout is still first overall by a margin of 14 points.
Positional Leaders
Goalkeepers
Roman Celentano’s (CIN, $7.5) saved penalty helped him to 9 points, leading the position. Right behind him was a quartet of clean sheet-keeping keepers — Zack Steffen (COL, $8.1), Brad Stuver (ATX, $7.6), Yohei Takaoka (VAN, $7.4), and Sean Johnson (TOR, $5.7), with 8 points each. D.C.’s Kim Joon Hong ($5.9) scored 2 points.
Defenders
Two players tied for the positional lead on 10 points, as Jefferson Diaz (MIN, $6.2) paired a clean sheet with an assist, and Franco Escobar (HOU, $6.4) scored a goal. Meanwhile, Tristan Blackmon (VAN, $8.0) kept a clean sheet on the way to 9 points. The United defense featured Kye Rowles ($5.6) with 2 points, followed by both Lucas Bartlett ($5.9) and Matti Peltola ($5.4) with 1 point, and Derek Dodson ($4.1), who scored -1 point for the second consecutive week.
Midfielders
Colorado’s Djordje Mihailovic ($9.2) scored two goals on the way to 16 points, edging the midfield lead ahead of Carles Gil (NE, $8.6), who did the same for 15 points. Rounding out the top three, Houston could not figure out how to mark Antony (POR, $8.9), who scored 14 points on the strength of two goals. DCU’s midfield was led by Joao Peglow ($7.8) with 5 points, followed by Gabriel Pirani ($7.2) with 3, the pair of Hosei Kijima ($6.3) and Jared Stroud ($6.6) with 2, and Boris Enow ($5.1) with 1.
Forwards
Portland’s Felipe Mora ($7.2) added a goal to two assists on the way to 14 points, a total matched by Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi (MIN, $7.9), who scored twice. D.C.’s Christian Benteke ($11.3) was third, pacing the D.C. forwards with 9 points, on one goal. The remaining United scorers were Jacob Murrell ($5.3) and Dominique Badji ($4.0), both with 1 point.
Looking Ahead
I like Roman Celentano this round vs. New England, and Andres Herrera (CLB, $7.4) in defense vs. Montreal. In midfield, Orlando’s Martin Ojeda ($10.5) has amassed four goals and three assists in six matches, so I like him and the most potent offense in the league at Philadelphia. At forward, I like Emmanuel Latte Lath (ATL, $9.2) vs. Dallas.
