MLS Fantasy Focus: The Real Deal

I had to take a one-week break from Fantasy Focus to deal with some family business stateside, but I am back with your regularly-scheduled look at the last round.

Bayern Neverlusen was the big winner this week, with 108 points. Meanwhile,
Nouhou Big Summer Blowout extended their overall lead to 39 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
A quintet of keepers, each with a clean sheet, set the positional pace this week – Rafael Cabral (RSL, $6.6), Matt Freese (NYC, $6.1), Jimmy Maurer (HOU, $5.3), and Michael Collodi (DAL, $5.0). DCU’s Kim Joon Hong ($6.0) scored 1 point.

Defenders
A pair of goal-scoring, clean sheet-keeping defenders, Josh Bauer (NSH, $6.1) and Aaron Long (LA, $7.7) led the position with 14 points. Philadelphia’s Ian Glavinovich ($6.4) did the same as Long and Bauer, but for 12 points. The United defense was led by Lukas MacNaughton ($5.6) with 7 points, followed by the pair of Aaron Herrera ($6.9) and Lucas Bartlett ($6.2) with 1 each, and Derek Dodson ($4.4) with the ignominy of scoring -1 point.

Midfielders
Cincinnati’s Evander ($9.7) scored two goals on the way to 17 points, leading all midfielders and all players. Just behind were Martin Ojeda (ORL, $10.0) with a goal, two assists, and 16 points, and Pep Biel (CLT, $8.3) with 15 points on the same. In the D.C. midfield it was the trio of Gabriel Pirani ($7.3), Hosei Kijima ($6.5), and Jared Stroud ($6.8) with 3 points each, ahead of the pair of Boris Enow ($5.3) and Rida Zouhir ($4.3) with 2.

Forwards
Kelvin Yeboah (MIN, $9.9) scored 15 points on the strength of two goals, leading the forwards. Trailing him was the 11-point pair of Cristian Arango (SJ, $9.6) and Luis Muriel (ORL, $8.7), each with a goal. For United it was Christian Benteke ($10.8) with 6 points, followed by both Jacob Murrell ($5.6) and Dominique Badji ($4.0) with 1.

Looking Ahead
If I was ever inclined to play a Red Bulls player (I am not), I’d pick Carlos Coronel ($7.5) in goal at New England. In defense, assuming Tristan Blackmon (VAN, $7.5) is back in the lineup, I like him at Toronto, and Martin Ojeda (ORL) looks good in midfield at the Galaxy.

Bargain Buys: A few points for a few million
GK: John Pulskamp (SKC, $4.8)
DEF: Femi Awodesu (HOU, $4.8)
MID: Sergio Oregel (CHI, $4.9)
FOR: Forster Ajago (RSL, $4.4)
