MLS Fantasy Focus: Cobra Tai

The points leader this round was Nouhou Big Summer Blowout, which I believe to be a Frozen pun? Anyway, they edged the weekly lead with 81 points, one more than the next best. And if they asked me who’s at the top of the league, I’d say “you and this fellow.” Nouhou Big Summer Blowout and Pitch PerfectFC are tied with 143 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers
San Diego’s Rafael Cabral ($6.0) and Portland’s James Pantemis ($6.0) both kept a clean sheet and scored 9 points, splitting the positional lead ahead of Hugo Lloris (LA, $7.4), who had a clean sheet of his own and 8 points. D.C.’s Kim Joon Hong ($5.9) has arrived in the game and scored 1 point.

Defenders
Mohamed Farsi (CLB, $7.6) paired a clean sheet with an assist, leading the defenders with 12 points ahead of his teammate, Yevhen Cheberko ($7.3), who scored 10 points on a clean sheet. Justen Glad (RSL, $6.7) rounded out the top three with 9 points on a clean sheet. The United defense was led by Aaron Herrera ($6.6) with 7 points, followed by both Lucas Bartlett ($6.0) and David Schnegg ($5.1) with 1 point.

Midfielders
Miami’s Telasco Segovia ($6.7) scored two goals, leading the position with 13 points. Behind him were Cesar Araujo (ORL, $7.4), with a goal, an assist, and 11 points, and Daniel Gazdag (PHI, $8.8), with two assists and 10 points. DCU was paced by Gabriel Pirani ($7.2) with 6 points, trailed by the pair of Jared Stroud ($7.0) and Boris Enow ($5.9) with 3, and both Hosei Kijima ($5.7) and Brandon Servania ($6.1) with 2.

Forwards
Tai Baribo (PHI, $8.3) scored a hat trick on the way to 19 points, leading the forwards and all players. Rafael Navarro (COL, $7.8), who scored twice, and Luis Suarez (MIA, $9.2), who tallied two assists and a goal, tied for second with 15 points. For D.C. it was Christian Benteke ($9.3) with 10 points, followed by Jacob Murrell ($6.1), who bicycled his way to 6 points, and Dominque Badji ($4.6) with 1 point.

Looking Ahead
I’ve got Andre Blake (PHI, $6.1) in goal at New England, and DeAndre Yedlin (CIN, $6.8) in defense vs. Toronto. I like Ryan Gauld (VAN, $9.5) in the midfield vs. Montreal, and Diego Rossi (CLB, $9.0) at forward vs. Houston.

Budget Buys: A few points for a few million
Goalkeeper: Oscar Ustari (MIA, $4.0) [the cheapest current starter]
Defender: Matthew Edwards (ATL, $4.0) [two games, two starts]
Midfielder: Sergio Oregel (CHI, $4.3) [two games, two starts]
Forward: Forster Ajago (RSL, $5.0) [two games, one start, one goal]

I see some teams playing formations other than 3-4-3. I don’t see where you can choose a different formation. If it’s there and easily explained, I’d like to know how to get to that.
