MLS Fantasy Focus: Rossi-colored Glasses
We’re a little late this week because by as late as 6:00pm Eastern time on Tuesday, the MLS Fantasy round was still locked and hadn’t rolled over to the next week. But now we can see that Pitch PerfectFC led with 77 points, and now holds a 2-point lead at the top of the table.
Positional Leaders
Goalkeepers
A quintet of netminders led with 8 points, each of them keeping a clean sheet — Roman Celentano (CIN, $7.2), Aljaz Ivacic (NE, $7.0), Zack Steffen (COL, $7.0), Daniel (SJ, $6.5), and CJ Dos Santos (SD, $6.5). D.C.’s Kim Joon Hong, whose name will be stylized like this because Korean surnames come first, and anyway D.C. United is stylizing it this way too, did not score any points because he’s not yet in MLS Fantasy despite being signed seven weeks ago. MOVING ON.
Defenders
The San Jose pair of Rodrigues ($7.3) and Jamar Ricketts ($4.5) each contributed a clean sheet and a goal, leading all defenders with 13 points. On their tail was DeAndre Yedlin (CIN, $6.5) with a clean sheet, an assist, and 12 points. For DCU, Lucas Bartlett ($6.2) and Aaron Herrera ($6.2) were the only defensive scorers with 3 points.
Midfielders
The trio of Brian Gutierrez (CHI, $8.3), with two goals, Ryan Gauld (VAN, $9.0) with one, and Albert Rusnak (SEA, $8.8), with an assist, led the position with 11 points each. For United, Hosei Kijima ($5.8) led with 3 points, followed by Gabriel Pirani ($7.1) and Brandon Servania ($6.4) with 2, and Randall Leal ($6.3) with 1.
Forwards
Diego Rossi (CLB, $8.5) scored two goals and 16 points, easing to the positional and overall scoring lead. Behind him were Jordan Morris (SEA, $8.3), who also scored twice for 13 points, and Petar Musa (DAL, $9.0), who paired a goal with an assist for 11 points. The D.C. forwards were Christian Benteke ($8.8) with 7 points, Jacob Murrell ($5.6) with 6, and Dominique Badji ($4.8) with 1.
Looking Ahead
For round two, I like Maarten Paes (DAL, $6.4) in goal, and Steven Moreira (CLB, $7.6) in defense. I like Martin Ojeda (ORL, $8.0) in the midfield, and I’m rolling with Jordan Morris at forward.
Budget Buys – a few points for a few million
Goalkeeper: Oscar Ustari (MIA, $4.0)
Defender: Morris Duggan (MIN, $4.0)
Midfielder: Georgi Minoungou (SEA, $5.3)
Forward: Forster Ajago (RSL ($4.7)

Wait, is Enow also not in the MLS Fantasy listings either?
Indeed he, who was signed in the summer, is not.
