USA vs. Iceland: October 2024 womens’ friendly match thread

The U.S. Men’s National Team play their second match in the week against Iceland this evening. They won the first match om Thursday night with goals by Alyssa Thompson, Jaedyn Shaw, and Sophia Smith. Iceland kept things competitive until late in the second half, scoring one goal themselves.

With one more match to go before the end of the international break, coach Emma Hayes is likely to rotate her squad, and we could see more players getting their first caps. Washington Spirit player Hal Hershfelt took the field for the US for the first time on Wednesday, making some key tackles, and Casey Krueger also subbed on and assisted Shaw’s go-ahead goal.

Thanks, for the thread, Annie!

Very inexperienced lineup. Will be interesting, but might be a drop.

May be the only one here, but should be a fun experiment for Hayes

Well, that was a drop. And as far as that corner flub, it sucks, but Kingsbury has that

It’s feisty, and tied. Hayes has seen enough of the prospects, throws on some veteran heads, Williams at the end of the play

Williams with the run into the box off a Swanson fk, squares it to Horan who kills Iceland’s dreams

Iceland must feel like they were rumbled in the jungle. Given a shot against a lineup largely not ready for prime time, then get both barrels from the subs bench

There’s a new Emma in town!

Emma Sears finishes a play that they failed to a few times with a far post placement. Gorgeous on her debut

Chiron for Lynn Williams:

1 goal, 1 assist, 9 touches

She’s a winner.

Didn’t realize this, Emma Sears also got a goal and an assist in similar minutes. First ever for that combo in a debut. Outstanding.
