DC Power FC vs. Lexington SC: Preview, time, and how to watch
DC Power FC are back at Audi Field tonight as they host Lexington SC in USL Super League action. DC Power is hoping to build on their last two matches, where they beat Brooklyn FC before last week’s scoreless draw to Dallas Trinity.
The team is currently 7th in the league table with 7 points, but a win tonight could vault the team over the playoff line into 4th place. They will have to do it without Katrina Guillou and Charlie Escourt, who were called up to international duty (Guillou to Philippines, Escourt to Wales). Claire Constant was also called up by Haiti, but will remain with DC Power and should be available tonight.
DC Power head coach Fred Brillant is happy at how quickly his centerback pairing of Claire Constant and Madison Wolfbauer have gelled and become one of the best in the league. The relationship between the two on the field has helped the team become more solid on defense. Against Lexington SC, who has allowed a league-high 18 goals so far this season, Brillant hopes that defense can help generate the offense needed to win the game.
The team also announced the signing of USYNT player Riley Cross to an academy contract. A New Jersey native, the midfielder joins the team from the recent USWNT U-17 national team camp. She has 8 youth caps for the United States and may be selected for matchday rosters while keeping amateur status and retaining her NCAA eligibility. It is unclear whether Cross will be included in tonight’s roster for DC Power.
They face Lexington SC, who are currently one point above DC Power in the league table. They are led by Madison Parsons, who is second in the USL Super League Golden Boot race with 4 goals. Sydney Shepherd is right behind her with 3 goals and Madison Perez leads the league with 5 assists. Lexington’s attack will form a strong challenge for the DC Power defense. DC Power goalkeeper Morgan Aquino, who has kept the team in games consistently with her play, leads the league in saves with 26 so far on the season. She is also second in the league in clean sheets with 3 and hopes to add to her total tonight.
On offense, DC Power hope to continue generating offense through the wing, where Katelyn Duong leadds the league with 19 created chances to date. Jorian Baucom is second in the league in shots with 19, but Brillant hopes tonight is the night some of those chances will finally end with the ball in the back of the net and DC Power in the win column.
