How to watch Washington Spirit players in the October 2024 international break
It’s a FIFA international window for women’s national teams, and you know what that means: International Spirits! Four Washington Spirit players will be playing for their countries in this brief break before the last match of the NWSL season, and we’ve collected all you need to know to follow them here.
Article updated on evening of October 24 with new streaming announcements.
Canada
Defender Gabby Carle is becoming a mainstay for Canada’s Women’s National Team with seven caps this year and three starts in their 2024 Olympics matches. She’ll be joining the team once again for a friendly in Spain this weekend.
Canada is still between coaches after Bev Priestman’s suspension in relation to the use of drones to record other teams’ training, which could account for their only having one game in this break. The match is not currently scheduled to be broadcast or streamed for an American audience, so this will be one of the harder ones to follow. UPDATE: As of Thursday evening, Paramount+ has announced they will be streaming this match.
England
Spirit newcomer Esme Morgan returned to England for the first time since moving to the U.S. to play for her National Team over the break. Morgan has started in at least one match for England in each of the last three years, and hopefully the playing time and development she’s had a chance to experience in Washington will help her get more minutes in England’s back line.
England will be playing Germany and South Africa, both at home, over the course of this break.
USA
Returning to the team after a successful trip to Paris, Hal Hershfelt and Casey Krueger will once again represent the United States. Krueger has been playing for the team on and off for seven years, while Hershfelt will be hoping to make her first appearance, after being named as an alternate for the Olympic roster.
Teammates Croix Bethune and Trinity Rodman were not invited to camp due to injury. Rodman has played in the past two Spirit matches but was granted some additional time off to fully recover from her back injury.
The US is playing a slightly shocking three matches over the course of this one-week international window. First up: two matches against Iceland, followed by a single game against Argentina, all played in the United States.
