Hey, Foxy is back! And Davidson! Obviously Coffey is back. If Lavelle can finally hit form, I think we got this
Fox being well and fit is very important, methinks.
Lavelle can’t finish. Like, really bad shot
After that sideline play, maybe Lavelle is finally dialing it in. Let’s see
Yellows are broken, albeit for an intentional handball while fouling
Girma and Davidson sipping the ice water in each other’s veins in possession
We’re not playing badly, but our frontline is having trouble running, and I can’t blame them. Lot of minutes on those legs.
First goal will be huge, let’s go, US
Hegering mugs Swanson, finally gets a yellow
Davidson is off, Sonnett on. I really don’t trust her composure or ability as much
Sonnett pretty quickly becomes an invisible wall on a defensive play, we gotta win a shootout now, potentially. Still no score
Germany looking the more energetic in this scoreless second half so far
Trinity finally gets a chance for a cross, doesn’t find someone
The ref calling some non-fouls, on both sides
I think US legs might finally be going, lines protecting Naeher fraying
That’s a really nasty one that isn’t even called a foul on Rodman. Got her arm, brought her down, and threw all her weight into the small of Trin’s back. VAR check, please
That was a curious no call.
Williams in for Lavelle, maybe Trin goes to wingback?
If Shaw is good to go, now’s the time
We gotta do this in regular time. We still have four subs, but there’s way more than four players that need an ice bath now, let alone extra time or penalties
I always found that tired legs don’t work in PKs as well. And Berger has a very good reputation against penalties.
Naeher has been a little nervous today with some plays, as well
Well, fuck me for questioning her
Thanks for the match thread. I know that this is a little bit of extra work for the hard working DP team. But all of us appreciate it!
As someone who never wants to see players pushed into the red zone, this is painful viewing
I am very fearful for player health at this point. These women don’t need another 30 minutes
Albert on for Horan, Nighswonger on for Crystal Dunn.
SMITH!!!!
These women are incredible
Gotta say, why ditch Bethune back if Shaw isn’t going to play now?
And Sophia Smith with the late goal!
Krueger on for Swanson
Could we have gotten any luckier on that corner?
Wow. Free kick mayhem
Smith is incredible, German goalie just barely denies
Massive hearts, iron legs, vibranium lungs, brilliant women.
Finished 1-0 US
Another great victory for USWNT! Incredible women!
On a negative note, I suspect that this is the last major tournament for Rose Lavelle. She just hasn’t delivered. What USWNT needs is some Croix magic.
Can’t help but agree. She’s a warrior, but starting to get mighty frail in the offense.
Is it an age wall and/or ability wall?
I just feel she’s gone through a lot, and went from the next maestro to struggling prospect to purple form warrior, and now her body is just not living up to her brilliant mind. I don’t know if she’s constitutionally capable of being a USWNT starter anymore, and this sounds harsh, but wizened is not uncalled for as an adjective
She’s injured too often is really the problem. Doesn’t really matter whether that’s because she’s not strong enough or she’s just prone to sprains and strains doesn’t matter all too much unfortunately. She can never reach/sustain her peak form long enough.
Rose has always been inconsistent. In the 2019 WC where she got the award as the best young player, she had one match (can’t remember against whom) where she was dreck. She wasn’t really in-form when the Olympics camp started and it’s carried through the tournament.
Back line fortitude and Mustangs peeling out on the front. Clean sheet for our goalie. Midfield seemed a bit off, and frankly, it seemed Germany could drive a truck (VW Hippie Van?) right down the middle. Yet, here we are.
Nice job USA!
Goodness, no spoilers, the Brazil v Spain game is interesting.
Lock and load, USA, cause it’s gonna be fun.
I’ll say.
